Has anyone had success permanently disabling ECO on a 2016 yet, and if so, how did you do it?

Yes; if you use the 'Search' button at the top, centre of the page, you will stumble across a fix I posted a while back.
Had mine disabled since May, plugged it back a couple of times and ECO works just fine, so I think I can safely say it is a success!

Does anyone with an MT actually mind the ECO. Being able to restart the engine by merely depressing the clutch pedal, for me anyway, eliminates any concern that the car won't start up when needed. I've gotten used to the ECO and actually miss it on my other cars.

I've got the MT and find the ECO to be a nuisance and of very little value. Now, the fact that I'm averaging about 17 MPG, might be an indicator that I should embrace the ECO feature...

My poor MPG started about the same time my odometer hit 2,000 miles (break-in) and my driving style substantially changed.

I don't think so. I think the point is to cut down idling emissions and not to improve mileage. The energy expended in the start-up probably offsets the idling savings. I think fuel savings would require hybrid technology...but alas, I'm not an engineer. I suspect we could prove it by disabling for a week and seeing if mileage deteriorated, but my hypothesis is that it won't.

No, it's actually both. Data cited in this forum show a several percentage point mpg improvement, and every little bit helps when you're a manufacturer trying to comply with EU, US, and other national CAFE requirements.

Nope, don't know what the big deal is. The only thing I miss is idle noise.

Interesting...you'd think they'd "sell it" then. But consistently, in the cars I looked at, the salesmen said, " you might save about half a tank per year"... Mercedes SL, BMW M4, and Jaguar. As for me, I have no problem with it and prefer it now that I've learned to stop creeping forward at the light

What's sad is it took you 6 years to get the joke. Bit slow, are we?

Just joined the forum a couple of hours ago and was reading some threads to gain a feel for the group. I really hope you are not a reflection of the forum as a whole. But, I wish you a great day anyway.

Really, you mean someone who's been on hear over 5 years and tries to help people out? You mean someone who's pointing out that you should pay attention because its bad manners to dig up 6+ year old posts for no good reason?

You could have said, "oops, sorry". Apparently you would rather disparage someone else for pointing out your mistake. If this is a problem for you perhaps you should go elsewhere, like a cave, where there will be nothing to hurt your feelings.

Idiot.

Wow. This one went sideways fast

Can I suggest we stop here as it's not a reflection of the forum and doesn't seem welcoming to new members?

I suspect no offense was meant by either side, but written comments can quickly be taken out of context.

Hey it was funny! I laughed too…!I’ve been a member since I’ve had a XJ8 & SType R “waaaaay back in the day” and I just read this thread and that post was funny😄.
It was a slick remark that made me laugh out loud.
This is a great forum and he was truly just pulling your leg a bit that’s it…. You will not find a better Jaguar or any forum(except for Club Lexus they’re strong there ok I have Lexus LX470 & GX460 and a Toyota Tundra)….
I had to give that forum it's props 😎

BUT enjoy the forum and all of us should toast a hot cup of coffee this cold morning and be friends!

This is the best forum I've ever been on. I've been on Audi, Mercedes, Maserati, and land Rover.
