Default How i fixed the meridian sound

Hi guys

Been puzzled with the low quality of this 'upgraded' meridian audio in the default setting

So i went to see an audio mate of mine, he put a sound recording device inside and let him tweak the audio settings

My car is a september 2015 build (US 2016 spec), so i assume i have the upgraded panel trim to dampen the sound vibrations because i don't get any rattling even in the default audio setting

In the end this is where we ended up. The biggest change was moving the sound stage 2 steps backwards. This stopped the front speakers distorting as it took bass out of them and pushed it back towards the sub in the rear bulkhead, which with aforementioned upgraded trim, just produces clean rattle free bass now.

My stereo (2017) sounds pretty awesome in all modes but I have also settled on DTS, very similar bass and sub settings, and just more treble to my preference. I didn't play with the fader. Will try that.

Appreciate the info, working the fade is needed to balance the sound. I still believe that no buzzing, rattling should occur unless there is a bad component or design.

Agreed. The default settings send too much to the front coaxials. Major adjustments are needed to get the true sound capabilities of this system. I prefer the Meridian setting however.

Very interesting. Through a long series of trial and error settings over the past 9 months, this is extremely close to the settings I finally settled on.

the front speakers can't do bass, not the speakers themselves, nor the mounts inside the door

the relationship between the bass slider and sub slider is a weird one, and from what i can gather, the bass slider adds bass to all speakers and volume to sub at same time. then when you adjust sub slider it gives even more volume. this is the main problem imo and hasn't been setup correctly from factory

you could remove the door trim, fit some beefier mdf mounts for the speakers, focal bam the door skin and trim, but i don't think it's necessary at this stage - though i will if i end up keeping this car long term (waiting for local launch of r8 plus). i'd focal bam the rear bulkhead too

I couldn't get my to settle down with any bass or sub over the half way mark. We'll see what the service comes come up with as I would have hoped the factory fix was a complete one. Thanks again for the info.

This makes sense, but is interesting as I pushed the fade 2 clicks to the front, sounded better to me. I bump up the sub stronger than you have here. I can get plenty of bass, I prefer a stronger treble for separation. Hey as long as you are enjoying it!

Lightbulb Surround Sound

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit...

But my F-Type S Coupé also is September 2015 built (MY2016) but I haven't got the Surround sound options, nor the separate Bass and Sub sliders in my multimedia unit! Although I do have the newer style - not so blocky, more colorful - media system loaded on it

Does this maybe have to do something with having the 380 instead of the 770 Watt Meridian system?

TIA, cheers

Lyndon

Yes, the 380W (which I also have - the 2014 version) doesn't have the various surround-sound options. Mine sounds mediocre - no highs to speak of.
