Nice video showing how the F-Type is manufactured. The sections on aluminium stamping, gluing and riveting is interesting....Jaguar has made a huge commitment to aluminum manufacturing.
Watch while you can, cos these videos often get taken down.

What do you guys think of the factory?
Based on some experience with manufacturing facilities and also from walking the BMW and MB factories, I would observe:
But, I'm not a manufacturing guy per se, so it'd be interesting to hear from anyone who is.
Based on some experience with manufacturing facilities and also from walking the BMW and MB factories, I would observe:
- Looks like they try to run a lean manufacturing line, but they still have a ways to go to completing lean transformation.
- Level of automation is much lower than MB/BMW. Major chassis pieces and interior placement are still assembled by hand. Same with drivetrain placement. They have a lot of room for improvement on quality. The use of hand clamps raises an eyebrow!
- I didn't see any outbound automated optical inspection or an inspection station next to the stamping line, which seems like kind of a quality risk. The aluminium panels are pretty thin so it's easy to run into problems with them downstream.....maybe another reason why folks have had panel issues.
But, I'm not a manufacturing guy per se, so it'd be interesting to hear from anyone who is.
