I've just completed an f type r transaction. I shopped local and out of state, considering cars as far away as 1270 miles. Tax and registration is per your home state, as far as I know. I was quoted 850 for open carrier and 1200-1300 for closed carrier for the 1270 miles. This was a private carrier not arranged through the dealer. I can't comment much on leasing other than the one dealer quote I received had only a 2500 rebate from Jag and the dealers discount from msrp. For an outright sale, discounts ran from 13-to almost 17% off msrp. My deal had a trade involved so it muddied the waters a bit. I did get some very competitive out of state quotes and dealers were willing and able to arrange shipping. They likely get better rates than you can, but may not pass on the savings. Out right sales I suspect are easier when puchasing out of state, but New York is a PIA for many things. One out of state dealer said due to NY law , I would pay tax when registering vehicle, as they could not collect on behalf of NY. I think if you truly are going to lease, more info on out of your state leases is needed. Out of state dealers were not eager to discuss a lease deal with me. I ended up buying fairly local due to trade in. Good luck! I'll be posting my car over the weekend and join the ftype club here!
Fyi- the larger discounts were for cars whose warranty had started, but are sold as new as they have never been registered to a buyer other than the dealer. For a demo with any significant miles (say over 200) I would push for north of 15%, and to 20%. If the warranty started and you are the first owner to register the car, the dealer received a discount from Jag for this purpose. Happy shopping.

Plano has a white vert that is a demo with 1k miles on it but will only come off 7K and not interested in dealing more.
Going to Dallas to work on a deal that is the same price but zero miles. (Thanks to another member on the forum for the help!)
