I think diesel is more the villain when it comes to cars, they are filthy, disgusting engines (although the JLR 3 litre TT was pretty sweet).
I balance our very moderate car emissions by solar on the roof at home - about 15KW with 2 batteries, we use a lot of power at home and virtually none of it comes from the coal powered grid.

I think I read somewhere that the carbon footprint of manufacturing and EV is about 20 tonnes so you can burn a lot of gas before you've matched that. Best not to "upgrade".

I retired from Tesla a couple of years ago. When I told people that I had ordered a new Jaguar with a V8 engine they often said "why didn't you order a Tesla?"
My answer was that I wanted a fire breathing, gas guzzling, hydrocarbon emitting, loud, sexy looking, real leather interior instead of some vegan friendly fake upholstery and very fast car while it was still legal to buy one and I wasn't too feeble to drive anymore.
They said "but the Tesla's haul *** too". It just isn't the same. When I was a kid in the early 1960's two of my favorite toys were a Matchbox D Type Jaguar and an Aurora Stirling Moss edition HO gauge slot car set that included an XKE. Jaguars had made an early impression upon me. I am finally at a point in my life that I could afford a car that cost as much as my first house and the carbon footprint had zero bearing upon my decision to enjoy myself.

Had a chance meeting with a Tesla today on the road going the opposite way, I know there quick and full of tech, but I looked at it in more pity than anything, darn what an ugly car, the proof of the pudding was when I had another encounter with one later in the day while driving through a town in a built up shopping area, I was in front , the battery car behind, passers by out with the phones taking pics of the Jag, the Tesla didn't get a look in, one guy jumped in traffic and stood in front of the Tesla to get a great pic of the perfect *** shot, then I stopped in traffic to talk to a guy who wanted to know what it was, Mr Tesla wasn't pleased, why is none looking at me , I enjoyed the moment.
The F-type is one beautiful car, especially passing big windows, think we're all guilty of looking at that stunning reflection.

Apparently the Taycan is actually exciting and engaging to drive, according to a few people (well one was a reviewer I was communicating with, another was a guy who has ordered the station wagon looking one). I remain to be convinced as I cant imagine a performance car without engine noise and gears - even if automatic. I hope so, because in 5 years time electric will be the only game in down.

Since the most effective way to eliminate our carbon footprint is to jump off a cliff and that's not practical for most people, we have to be selective in which items we prioritize. I'd like to think that overall I'm doing better than the Tesla bro that also runs an intense Bitcoin mining rig.

If you'd like to keep up with the Jones' we will all be eco-warriors in 10 years. But ... until they rival the emotional experience of an ICE, under boost, straining at the reigns, it will be hard to jump ship. I expect our kids will think we are crazy.
Sorry, adding to the post. How lucky are we to be enjoying the pinnacle of air, gas and timing? If it were the end of the world, wouldn't it be great to have a ringside seat?
