My wife fell madly in love w/ the new Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 AWD, and we took delivery of one yesterday. 3.0L twin-turbo, 400HP/350TQ, 7-speed auto that feels a lot like the ZF8, and a surprisingly nice car w/ beautiful interior covered in semi-aniline leather.
Is it just me or am I seeing a lot of F-Type coupe influences?
The front grille looks in particular more elegant. I always thought the angled inward design was too radical. I think jags have influenced many cars of late. Nice color, congratulations!
I don't think they borrowed from Jaguar. This car actually looks more closely to the original concept they had for the G37. Overall since the first introduction of the G35 in 2002 to the now Q60 (the decided to change the branding a few year ago), the design has pretty much stayed the same, just getting more curvy and voluptuous each year. So if anyone is copying anyone its Jaguar.
They are both beautiful cars, I loved my G35, but I highly doubt they are influencing each others design.
I know this is blasphemous, but I'd take a Q60 any day over an F-TYPE from a tuner standpoint. Q60 engine is a close cousin of the GTR. Not to mention the near infinite availability of aftermarket parts that are interchangeable.
I had a G35 sedan in 2008 as my introduction to the brand and i loved it. I then got a G37 coupe in 2010 and have thought about that car every day since i returned the lease. Infiniti makes great freaking cars!.
i havent had a chance to check out the Q60, im sure its great, the 400hp is needed...that thing is pretty hefty. The one thing i ABSOLUTELY loved about my G37 (and partially the reason i got it) was the exhaust note......which im afraid is a disappointment on the Q60 from what i've been hearing.

i'm focused on about a 2014 c63AMG, a 2015 F Type R or a new Q60 red sport. my questions for you are; does yours have the wireless Direct Adaptive Steering (i think they call it)? if so, what's it like? if you don't, what's THAT like?? thanks
p.s. love that color

Thanks for the compliments, and I must say I'm a little surprised. I had NEVER considered an Infiniti before, but had a good friend who always raved about his G37. You don't see many around yet, as it just hit the market in October. The top-dog, RS400 model has only been available for a couple of months.
The dealer I purchased my F-Type from is next door to the Infiniti dealer, and we were there looking at an XE R-Sport, which she liked, except for the color. She wanted to stop at the Infiniti dealer as we were leaving. She walked into the showroom, saw the car pictured above, and it was all over.
I've never seen her as excited by a car as she was by this one, which I loved seeing, and it is her car. I'm still loving my C7, and she now doesn't feel "deprived."
Jaguny,
It isn't the N-M edition, but it is the top-of-the-line model with essentially all options except the "automatic braking system," for people who like to text and drive. She doesn't, fortunately.

One thing I can tell you going from a 2012 C63 with P31 package to a 2014 v8S Convertible F-Type is that the F-Type is "nicer" but it is not noticeably faster. I tend to feel like I cannot floor the F-Type and get it moving at highway speeds as quickly as I could in the C63. I think it has something to do with the transmission, but I could merge onto the highway, punch it, and I'd be in the lowest gear possible way faster than the F-Type can. It probably has something to do with how the cars are geared and the ratios, but even my fiance commented that the F-Type does not "feel" as fast on the highway.

Thanks, and yes, it does have Direct Adaptive Steering. It's not "wireless," but it's "drive by wire." There is no mechanical connection. According to Infiniti:
A World’s First Technology, INFINITI’s Direct Adaptive Steering® (DAS) removes the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and tires, allowing for instantaneous driver input that can be digitally processed and adjusted up to 1,000 times per second. The DAS is unaffected by the kickback and forced movement of conventional steering but still gradually requires more effort with increased speed and G-forces like a conventional system.
The confidence-inspiring system allows the driver to choose Sport and Sport+ modes for quicker steering and more driving pleasure.
I don't have much time w/ it, but I did do about 10 miles on some twisty roads yesterday, and it is very confidence inspiring.

You are absolutely right about the Q60 exhaust note. It doesn't sound horrible like the M3/4, it's just rather subdued. I've yet to hear a twin-turbo with a really pleasing exhaust note.
On the other hand, my wife did not like the F-Type exhaust note and fireworks, which I absolutely adored. She's not all that happy when I dial up the loud exhaust note on my C7 either, but this is her car, and she thinks the exhaust sound (or lack there of) is perfect.
It's a "win-win" because I know I'll enjoy driving it. Things like ride quality and quiet are important to her, and the Q60 can be either cushy soft, or very track sporty. It also has Weather, Eco, Standard/Tour, Sport, and Sport+ modes.

Makes a big difference whether the car is in dynamic mode or not. More responsive throttle and shifting, at least on the V6S.

Butt dynos are always subjective; The C63 is a nice car but it's a few lbs heavier and slightly down on power from a V8S so it's also predictably slower in all the testing I've seen with 0-60 times in the low 4's and quarter mile times in the low 12's at 115 - 120mph. How noticeable that difference is is subjective I suppose.

There is something weird about the ftype for sure. I think they just did a really good job with the suspension and softened the tranny shifts (maybe too much). A go
My buddy has a limited viper that I've spent plenty of time in. It "feels" like a beast when you jump on it. And a quick shift will crack your spine if done right. You'd bet it has double the HP. But when we have them side by side, he's not pulling me by much.
Q60 still looks great. Just look at some interior pics. Love the ones with "wood".
