Default Infotainment Replacement?

Hey guys, I'm growing to really dislike the stock infotainment on my 2016 R. It's slow, the graphics are pretty bad, and the nav is downright unusable. I've been looking into options, such as the merryway units, and I'm considering purchasing one. Does anyone have any experience with this product, or any other competitor? FYI I have an iPhone, and apple car play integration would be a huge plus. I believe some Merryway models support car play.

There are a couple of long threads about the Merryway unit, the forum search should find them. I think the jury was out about them, though.

I don’t believe there were any successful installations.

Tried searching for them, but couldn't find any specifically on Merryway.

That's really unfortunate. I know you're one of the experts here, so do you know if there are any other options? Or should I resign myself to a crappy infotainment?

I think Cambo seems to be across what can and cant be done. There are two different versions of the 2016 units though. One was the old system that just looks like the new one, and the other is the new one. You can tell from the VIN, though I think the easy way is that if your instrument cluster has the temp gauge and fuel gauge as rectangles it is the 16MY with the old system, and if it has the curved gauges it is the 16.5MY update with the new one.

The infotainment system is completely outside my wheelhouse.

I was just looking at a video road test of a 2016 R which had the new gauge setup but the old infotainment, so that isnt right

He doesn't mean the infotainment software itself or the look of it. I believe what is being referred to is the type of interface behind the dash.

the android unit showed a lot of promise but in the end ultimately was a fail

nothing to do but wait for the facelift, which hopefully will get the full touchpro duo setup making its way through the JLR range

This is near and dear to my heart at the moment as I'm thinking of going to an R but it would have to be no newer than a 17MY because the 18's have the horizontal blades that I dont like. So I'd love a '15 or 16MY (RWD) but the infotainment is pedestrian, then the 16.5 - 17MY's have the infotainment I want but are in AWD, unfortunately they are like hen's teeth over here and there are limited colour choices.

I'd be much happier (and would save plenty of $$) getting a '15 and spending $15K on a complete gut's out change of the infotainment if it was possible.

Tell me about it!
I have been checking the listings for used F-Type Rs here in Oz pretty much every day for four years now, and there has never been one for sale in South Oz and I mean NEVER. I could buy an interstate one but that would mean:
a) The robbing Gummint would insist on $5,000 plus sales tax thank you sir bend over and say ahhh.
b) I can't take a squiz at it or take it for a test drive without lots of inconvenience and expense.
c) I might have to pay to have it trucked over to me - I say "might" as many sellers will pay that cost to secure the sale.
d) Having to accept a colour scheme I am not a fan of as the ones that are for sale are almost all white on black. There is one in WA at a good price but it is even "worse", black on black!
And then I would have to sell my current F-Type which would mean one or both of two things - waiting literally years for a buyer (no market here at all) or accepting a pitiful price some $20,000 or $30,000 less than it is worth.
I keep checking the listings but deep down I have given up on ever getting an R unless I win Lotto!

Haha, I recently missed a 2017 SVR which was $190K. Not really a fan of the shape but a lot of car for the money and it was red. I didnt realise how hard it is to find red ones. The one in WA is wrapped, looks pretty nice actually but it is white underneath. What I want is my exact car with 2 extra cylinders and exhaust pipes (or more to the point, my car with the v8 soundtrack).

We might end up being competitors for the same cars, bigfella. Grrrrr.

I'd be pretty interested in some infotainment solution too.
I bought a 2014 V8R last week and already dislike the system. Is there anyway to upgrade to the current system that's on the newer cars? It at least looks less Windows 98 than the old one.
