Default Installation of new O2 sensor

I have an error code P013E Bank 1, sensor 2, pointing to the cat sensor on the right-hand bank of cylinders.

I'll get a new sensor from the dealer, but on installing the new sensor, should anti-seize compound be used on the threads? Worried about being able to remove later versus fouling the sensor.

thanks
Steve

The JLR warranty on the X152 oxygen sensors should require the dealership to install them for you unless your vehicle is out of coverage.

When you buy the sensor there is usually a small packet of anti seize compound provided.

Call and ask your JLR dealer about the extended warranty on O2 Sensor replacements. I remember reading somewhere on a forum here that JLR has a 10 year warranty on O2 sensors as long as the check engine light is on and they only replace THAT sensor (not all of them).
I had a check engine light come on for a downstream sensor a few months back, but had already ordered the sensor when I found the thread. I still went ahead and called a Houston dealer and they said yes its correct.

Worth a shot in calling and asking, just be sure they waive both the O2 sensor replacement and the diagnoses fee they always do.

Mine is a 2015 V6S way out of warranty also.

No it isn’t, at least not with regard to the 02 sensor. These are warranted (parts and labour) by Jaguar Canada for 15 years from the “in service” date. Jaguar sent all registered owners a notice to this effect last year.
The dealership must know this, and if they don’t, they need to be reminded.

wow - it really pays to post here! I just called the dealer and they will run a diagnosis, but the sensors are covered to November 2023 for my car. The sensor was $439 plus tax CDN.

thanks for the post!

Yeah, about that... you can buy the sensor (which isn't magic, it's a Bosch part) for roughly $100. See this,

Oxygen sensors for the AJ133/AJ126 are covered by the JLR Emissions Warranty for 10 years/150,000 miles in the US.

The Letter:

JAGUAR VEHICLES AFFECTED* MODEL YEAR F-PACE 2017 F-TYPE 2014 - 2017 XE 2017 XF 2013 - 2017 XJ 2013 - 2017 XK 2013 - 2015
*Only vehicles fitted with a GTDi 2.0L, V6 3.0L SC, V8 5.0L, or V8 5.0L SC gasoline engines. Dear Current or Former Owner or Lessee:

This letter is to notify you that Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC has decided to offer additional warranty benefits related to the Exhaust System Oxygen (O2) sensors installed in certain vehicles listed below:
This extended warranty program does not apply to Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) registered in California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Vermont. The O2 sensors of PZEVs that are registered in these states are covered under an existing warranty of 15 years or 150,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

In line with our commitment to customer satisfaction, we are offering these benefits in response to reports of performance issues with exhaust system O2 sensors.

What is the Concern?
The O2 sensor concerns can be caused by either design or manufacturing variations or by system operating software and can lead to illumination of the check engine light (MIL) and potentially a minor increase in tailpipe emissions. There are no effects to vehicle performance. Vehicle repairs now benefit from enhanced system robustness improvements to component design, manufacturing processes and operating software.

How long is the extended warranty?
The extended warranty limits are defined in the following table: MODEL PETROL ENGINE VARIANT COVERAGE F-PACE 3.0 L F-TYPE 3.0 L XE 3.0 L XF 3.0 L XJ 3.0 L 15 years / 150,000 mi (whichever occurs first)

F-TYPE 5.0 L XE 2.0 L XF 2.0 L, 5.0 L XJ 5.0 L XK 5.0 L 10 years / 120,000 mi (whichever occurs first)

What should you do?
Should your vehicle's check engine light illuminate, please contact your preferred authorized Jaguar Retailer, provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and make a service appointment to diagnose the concern.

Any required repairs/replacements to any O2 sensor or to O2 sensor operating software will be covered at no cost to you for the length of the applicable extended warranty period.

Jaguar recommends you keep a copy of this letter in your glovebox with your vehicle literature pack and it be provided to the new owner of your vehicle if it is sold.

What if I have previously paid for this concern?
If any current or former owner has already paid for this service before the date of this letter, Jaguar is offering a refund. In order to qualify for a refund, please provide your authorized retailer with the original paid receipt. To avoid delays, please do not send the receipt to Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC.

What should you do if you have further questions?
Should you have any questions regarding this program or need assistance in locating the nearest authorized Jaguar retailer, please contact the Jaguar Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-4JAGUAR (1-800-452-4827). You may also contact us by e-mail using the following address: jagweb1@jaguarlandrover.com.

Thanks for all of these posts - very helpful!

My local dealer ran diagnostics on the car and found no error codes - despite my code reader showing P013E.

I installed a new sensor myself and two short drives later, check engine light is back on with another (new) P013E code. Given that I’ve paid for a diagnostic it’s going back to the dealer with the original sensor back in place.

BTW, new sensors come with a thin film of anti-seize already on the thread - ready to install.

i have a 2014 V6. i replaced the number 2 O2 sensor on the right (bank 1) a couple of years ago, need to replace the number 3 sensor on the left. Stupid question, how do y'all get up under your car? i had a hell of a time reaching under and doing it before, thinking of jacking up the driver side and putting jack stands under it? Really loathe to spend $500 at a dealer when i can get OM Bosch part from parts geek for $60, the challenge for me is getting to the sensor without a lift?

Before I got my quick jack I had to change an O2 sensor. Just jacked up the car about a foot in the front and rear and placed some thick pavers I had laying around under the front and rear wheels as safety jacks (have safety jacks but pavers were easier). The hardest part was releasing the connector on the sensor to the car harness. The number 3 sensor is almost exactly in the middle of the car between the front and rear wheels.

BTW the O2 sensors are covered under warranty for a an extended period of time. You should be able to get the dealer to do it for free.

Thank You. Figured on doing something similar...i too have cinder blocks and jack stands, but cinder blocks seem more secure lol. My car is 2014, but only has 42k on it, and the O2 sensors would be covered under warranty? That'd be very cool.

I'm pretty sure the O2 sensors on your car would be covered. My car is also a 2014 and only had about 25k on it when the O2 sensor went bad. It happened way before the extended warranty came out. I sure some kind soul will post the bulletin covering the extended warranty.

Yes, failures were so common, Jag extended the warranty to 10 or 15 years (depends on model or engine, don’t recall the details). Someone’s posted it here, I probably have it somewhere.

I have a vehicle lift and this kind of issue is quite easy to address with a lift. Yes, they are more expensive than other options, but if you have limited parking space, a lift can help with that too. I put off buying a lift for several years owing to the cost, but I've had mine for 10 years now, with huge ROI. I only regret how long it took me to pony-up and buy one.
