Default Instrument backlight

hi all

I've just gotten a 2014 V6 S and have a question. I think the backlight for rpm and speed is way to dark in daylight. I turn the adjuster but nothing changes.

I have the light switch in the auto position.

What might I be doing wrong?

Does any one more experience the backlight as being to dark?

My XKR-S has nice blue-ish backlight visible even in day light. My F-Type dials look unlit in the daylight even with the backlight turned all the way up.

Ok, then it sounds like we have the same experience. The car I had before my F-Type was a 2010 XKR. That also had a much brighter backlight.

I haven't yet driven mine at night. Is it better then? And does the knob make a difference then?

Yes, at night you can see a difference if you turn the knob.

On a similar (but slightly different) topic... I'd love to have a small LED light inside the center console. It's impossible to find anything in there at night, and the "reading" lamps are so dim they seem to be just for mood lighting. (Are the bulbs in the reading lamps replaceable with something more powerful?)

Out of curiosity, why would you need the backlight during the day?

One quirk I discovered is that the backlight intensity won't adjust with the knob unless your headlights are on. Found this out when parked one day with the radio going and wanted to dim the gauges but they wouldn't change. Thought that was odd.

Well, I feel that especially on a cloudy day, they can feel a bit dark, particulary in the speed Readings where every second number is in grey.

I haven't checked thoose. But if they use the same kind of sockets as normal bulbs, the they should be replaceable. But I guess there is a risk that they are some kind of special design.

I have seen that behaviour on other cars also. But then during day time, when the headlights are off the instruments light usually goes to max setting. Here I'm not so sure they do.

Have you noticed the digital display in the corner of the centre panel?

While I think the overall ergonomic design is a bit of a train wreck, it is - always - very visible.

Yeah, and that's actually where I have started to get my speed readings from.

I was just out driving a bit now, evening here. And the lights went on. The knob for brightness adjustment now does something. It does regulate all other backlighting, except the two dials, speed and rpm. These two stay fixed, but seams as a very good level for night time.
