Interior seat color change, can or can't do - RESOLVED
So new ordered F-type expected into dealers mid febuary, it was coming with the black leather , suede seats. Dealer didnt make us aware that we could have Cirrus seats and combo at no extra price, the car is caldera red. Then we saw pictures of the same type car with the Cirrus seats and i like them better, they brighten up the interior.
Contacted the dealer today and he said the car is locked in so no changes can be made he thinks. It is not an extra just a change, so still over a month away so cant see whats the problem. He is to get back to me monday when he contacts the factory. If it was a shorter time till dilevery i would understand , but a month, after all im paying for it.
Would like to contact the factory myself to explain the situation , but i'd say thats impossible.

Your dealer is probably right.
Once the car nears it´s production, order gets locked and after that point no changes can be made.
Sounds that your order has passed that point.
All contacts to the factory are through dealers and their computer system only, it´s not possible for a customer to contact factory directly.

I would second this and rely on your dealer but you can definitely try - never know until they ask hopefully expeditiously. You are correct, it would seem trivial but the issue with a vehicle that is either imported or on that tight of a production schedule there are supply chain concerns with making late changes (am a former manufacturing engineer for ford/joe/Aston Martin)

+1. Keep in mind that even though the car isn't in production for another couple of weeks, the order for your seats is most likely already in production so that the are ready for the assembly process. Production of everything now is a just-in-time process. There is no inventory of different colored seats just sitting around waiting for an order to come up.

Depends on your state. I believe in California, it won't cost you a dime...just some time. Your dealer might be p***ed off enough not to reorder for you, but there are always other dealers. How much money did you put down? Regardless, you should be getting all of that back.

True, but that doesn't change the fact that, under state law, he can walk away from the deal if he hasn't yet taken delivery.

As a UK-based customer, my order was locked at 1 month before the projected delivery date.
So allowing for shipping times, this seems about right?
Noting the change in spec that would be required to switch between the seats featured in the pictures, you might have had to start a completely new order.

Not saying it was dealers fault , only he didnt make us aware of it, and it is only on the web site configurator, yea in hindsight should have looked , anyway , will be happy with black, but the dealer will find out anyway, the cirrus ones might be hard to keep anyway when in daily use.

Cirrus seats will be fine as long as you don’t wear raw denim. Its impossible to get out.
