The AMG wild be the rarer car, especially if you get an Edition 1. I am not sure that the Jag sounds better, the F-Type has a very high exhaust note, no bass. The F-Type will depreciate faster, just bought a 2014 F-Type V8S for $20,000 off. So next year the price difference between an R and a GTS could be $50,000. The interior of the AMG is hands down nicer with less hard plastic. I think the F Type coupe is absolutely stunning on the exterior, definitely better looking than the AMG. I would get it in lunar grey and red interior, look absolutely classy and would never see another one like it. Get black on black and it will disappear in a sea of all the same.

The F-Type is always fun to drive, even in the city in 1st and 2nd, the AMG you will have to push to higher RPM to get the same enjoyment out of it. At C&Cs the crowd will be around the AMG if that is something you do a lot.

I hate MB service department and love the Jags. Enough so that I personally will always take a Jag over MB.

I have one of maybe 200 XKR-S in the US, my F-Type is satellite grey with red interior, possibly the only one in the US as satellite grey was only offered in the first year of production for the F-Type. Exclusive enough for me, nobody else will know or notice that. Everybody will notice the AMG, they are rare enough that there is not even one at every C&C.

As OzRisk stated, "There will always be a car better than the last car," and that's to be expected as research and development of newer models encompasses all that has come before. But, it's not like Jaguar is sitting on its hands and not continuing to develop the F-type. In less than two years of production, think of all of the major changes that have taken place: significant increases in horsepower, torque vectoring, all wheel drive and manual transmission options, the addition of the coupe as well as the Project 7 version (with even more horsepower and torque).... I believe the F-type will continue to evolve into the premier sports car it is meant to be, and will be competitive with anything that any car maker puts out there in its price range.

As for depreciation, have you seen what previous generation Mercedes AMG SLS's are selling for, they have depreciated, in a couple of years, more than the cost of an entirely new F-type (and imho look cartoonish).

Of course an exotic takes an exorbitant depreciation hit but I got a $20,000 discount on a brand new F-Type model year 2014, you will not get that on an AMG, just not a well thought out comparison to a used AMG. Looks are subjective and it is hard to argue that the front end of the F Type look like a Z350 or S2000 although I like the overall look.

It looks like the GT will have better handling, gear box, interior, & electronics.
The F-type will have the better exterior styling and sounds - just barely on this one based on the video clips we've seen so far for the GT.

Check out the Top Gear clip:

Watched it on TV yesterday.

Gee, the interior looks nice.

Gee, it's fast.

Gee, it's ugly.

After watching all these video clips:

I'm not a fan of the way the Merc looks - not nearly as gorgeous as our F-Types (in any and configurations) - but of course that's merely my opinion (and this is, after all, an F-Type Forum).

What I do love are those cut-away cars!

Each new car has a few years advancements on the competition. They then fall prey to another. The new Merc should be better in some ways as the manufactures all benchmark each other.

While I definitely prefer the exterior design of the F-type, I do not consider the MB an ugly looking car at all. I surely like it a lot more than most of the cars in this class in terms of exterior design.

The only thing I do not like about the AMG MBs in general is the cheap looking black plastic front grille.

But ... I'd get the F-type, again.

As a purpose built utility vehicle (racing) it does look mighty fine. As a luxury purpose GT, its the wrong look. "The right tool for the right job!"

GT3 versions of any car looks good. Widebody, aero bits, etc.
I like the looks of the SLS so I think the AMG GT will look pretty good but not as good as the SLS.
