*sigh....yes we really take it up the tail on the cost of cars over here. The v6S costs nearly $200K by the time you drive away, the R can be well over $250K, the SVR over $300K. Then they depreciate like crazy, so you tend to lose about 30% in the first year and 50% by about the third, so there are 2 year old SVR's buyable for low to mid $200K's. When I considered going to an SVR, a 3 year old plus model would have been good buying at around $180K, then transfer duty of around another $10K.
Car prices aside there are plenty of compensations for living in Australia, but based on what I pay for my cars, if I was over there I'd be tempted by a db11 which at about $220K is just over half what we would pay for it here.

Tell me about it!
One of the many ironies is that we have a Luxury Car Tax (LCT) here, introduced on 1 July 2001 at the same time as GST and many other tax reforms.
This adds a LOT to the price of a "luxury" car with the basic formula at the moment being 33% of the cost over $77,565. The dealer/importer pays this tax and (obviously!) they pass it on the customer.
So for a new F-Type R with a "real' price of say $200,000 the LCT works out at $40,403.
The next kicker is that this LCT applies to the GST inclusive price, so for example if the "real" price before GST is $180,000 the GST inclusive price is $198,000. It's a tax on a tax.
But the worst kicker is that the LCT was designed to protect the local car manufacturing industry - Holden, Ford and Toyota - but they all closed up shop by 2017 and there is no car manufacturing industry in Oz, but of course the LCT continues apace!
It's a sick joke all around.

I would'nt freak out about Cal. order at this point. There will be compromises and delays as engineering advances. Also Europe is headed that way. Cal. is largerst car market and economy in US and will influence any future direction. I think makers will figure out things, who would have thought of 500 hp fours and 600 hp 6's 20 years ago. Or that the fastest everyday cars are electric.

Tata Motors has been pushing on JLR the ancient Chinese marketing philosophy of cheap, cheap, cheap. Each year they have been introducing lower entry pricing and/or lower priced new models so they can sell more cars. Options suck you in so the lower price easily becomes a higher price. i was playing on the corvette website to see the pricing of the new vette which starts around $50k but the time i got done with adding options it was over $100k. As Henry Ford said, "Higher Pricing means Higher Margins."
I don't think Jaguar did a good job marketing SVR's as Mercedes did with it's AMG line. I see AMG's daily now but rarely see an SVR. And i found the F-Type line to be too confusing when i bought my last one in 2019. to make matters worse, the 2021 lineup removed the S type and replaced it with "first edition: and what is a f-type dynamic. they clearly need marketing help. Still offering the SVRs.
speaking of taxes in this thread, in china it costs $70,000 to get a license plate for your car.

i have no issues with them introducing lower priced models. the more they sell the better it is for us. It's their naming system that is confusing. and if you want to get more confused look at the land rover naming system. they need a good marketing firm to clean up the naming mess at JLR. I would gladly offer my marketing expertise. ![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I was a cofounder of a medical device company, Seahorse Bioscience, and our first product I named the XF 24 before jaguar introduced their XF line. XF referred to a 24 well microplate extracellular flux analyzer. If you ever see a BRG F-type R convertible going 100mph with a MA license plate "XF 24" you will know its me for it refers to the instrument sales that allowed me to buy my Jag. It doesn't refer to a jag XF with 24 cylinders.
peace
