To put it in perspective, $12k is what Jag charges for carbon brakes.

In defense of Porsche, decals make the car faster, brakes will just slow it down....

I have been with the brand since 2010, and on my third Jaguar....they've done everything right in the last 7 years to clawback into the market and earn these numbers. That said, I'm worried that they go too conventional in design. The next XJ has to be awesome.

Wow lots of Porsche hatred in here. I have a Porsche in addition to my F-Type and I do joke around with friends that the only thing you know you'll get when you get a Porsche is an engine and a steering wheel, everything else is an option. May not be to everyone's taste, but at the same time they say that no 2 Porsche's that come off the assembly line are the same so you really are getting a unique vehicle.

Either way, I love both cars very much. The F-Type is more of a looker though, it gets a lot more attention when driving around

I drove the Panamera Turbo. It was really good, and much much better than the 4S. The pricing was ridiculous, and even the dealer was a little frustrated at the structure. What made it worse, was the financing terms. 5.5% interest, and residual value of 42% and they will not even residualize the full value of the car. So, if to get it with decent options the price is $190,000, Porsche will only take the residual of 42% on $172,000.

The lease payments on a Panamera Turbo is $3600 per month. That's criminal... the car was good but not to any real measurable degree better than a lot of competition out there. No matter what ...there has to be some value in the proposition

I don't hate Porsches; actually the contrary, I really like the cars. I think they are overpriced and the dealers I've dealt with were rude and condescending but that doesn't take anything away from the cars themselves.

2 cents,

Dave

I'd love to have a 911R but at almost double the price of an Ftype R, I could never justify it to myself.

They are definitely pricey and are not great vehicles to lease. They are known for having terrible lease rates. I went in originally to lease mine and ended up purchasing it because it was only costing $100/mo more.

I do agree about the rudeness of some dealers. The first one I went to was not very nice to me, but I subsequently left and my other dealer I could not say enough good things about.

Granted, I had a similar experience with Jaguar where dealer #1 was absolutely HORRIBLE. So they come in all shapes...

True enough; actually my local JLR dealer owns a number of dealerships and they are currently building a Porsche dealer down the road from my office so that particular issue should be resolved in my case......still leaves the value problem but I could see maybe getting a used late model 6 cyl Boxster S for the wife when I can pry her from her SLK350....we'll see. :-)

You guys see the F-Pace on the Grand Tour

They rip Ian a little bit right at the end of the episode, but it's all fun.

It's a fun series. I always have low expectations, so this was super fun for me.

The problem is that you are trying to justify it instead of doing. When you are old and in a rocking chair eating gruel through a straw, it would be the same rocking chair and the same gruel had you purchased 911R or not.

The difference, is that on the wall there will be a picture of you in your prime driving a car that KIDS are STILL having wet dreams about.

At least the F-type has decent cupholders for said gruel and straw.

LOL; I'm far past my prime and my F type V8 is all the car I need. If the 911R was the same price as a new F type R, I'd consider it.......but not at $211,000.....I just don't think the car is worth that much coin. And I don't like the feeling I've been ripped off.

Cheers,
Dave

I've looked a Porsches several times. Every time I come away with the same feeling - too much money for what you get. Sure a 911 will go around a track faster, but that doesn't help me. It does have back seats - kind of - for which I have no need. And everything is an option.

I did a spit take.

I'm... damn. That was a pretty car. Now I'm going to look at them differently. That's stupid. If stupid people allow criminal things to happen, well.....

I don't want my gruel getting in the way of shifting.

if if you wanted it and had the money, you couldn't buy one unless it was a flip at $500k+

they were all pre-sold.

Haha; well, if I was out at $211k, I'm certainly not a buyer at $500k. If I was going to spend that much money on a car, it'd be Italian....

that's after they came down quite a bit, one resold a few weeks after release at $1 million.
