Is Jaguar still making 6 cylinder F-Types? Only 2022 models being built now?
Hi all,
I recently attempted to place an order with my local dealer for a 2021 F-Type P380 (6 cylinder engine). After a few days they got back to me with a modified build, allegedly from Jaguar UK, for a 2022 F-Type P450 (8 cylinder model). They explained to me that Jaguar is not making 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder F-Types at the moment and that they could only make me an 8 cylinder if I wanted a custom one. When I pressed them a bit as to when the 6 cylinders might be available again they mentioned that they had no idea and that this information was straight from a Jaguar UK rep. The gist of the conversation was that if I wanted a 6 I would likely have to wait a -very- long time if they even become available again, which seemed strange. Additionally the modified order had kept the price of the 6 despite the build being changed to an 8. So it seems they -really- prefer me to have an 8 and are willing to give me one for the price of a 6 (?). I'm sure the 8's are great and all however I did decline the offer as I am really only interested in the 6.
Just curious if anyone had any details on when Jag might be producing the 6 cylinders again? I imagine they haven't been retired altogether even if not a top seller like the 8.
Last but not least it seems they are making the 2022 models now? Has anyone seen one of these?
Thanks for any info : )

AIUI, they start building new MYs in Feb/March of the previous year - my MY18 has a build date of 25 March 2017. Covid/semiconductor issues may have impacted the start dates, but I'm sure they'd be building MY22s by now.

I actually looked this up on Topix a couple weeks ago because I was curious to see if they are still on 2021 production.
New VINs are being generated everyday and those are instant. Looks like COVID and the chip shortage caused significant delays. Also I have not seen a 2022 F-Type advertised on any dealer or site.

It seems the OP is in the UK somewhere which would explain his/her dilemma.
Last I knew for the 2021 and 2022 MYs the V6 is/was only available in the NAS (North American) market and the ROW (Rest Of World) market which includes the UK and Europe gets the P450 (detuned V8) instead.
Completely the wrong way around IMHO but who can fathom JLR marketing decisions!

Correct, we can still get a new V6 F-Type in Oz (but not the P450), same as US and Canada, but UK is the other way around. More JLR marketing lunacy!

Which makes your first post very interesting, as the Jaguar USA web site does NOT show the P450 as being available in the US: https://buildyour.jaguarusa.com/jag2...727.1584232656
The V6 P380 yes, V8R (575 PS) yes, but P450 no.
So either JLR is about to release the P450 in the US, or your local dealer is trying to swing a very special one-off deal for you, or he is talking out his other end.
If you really can get a P450 for the price of a P380 I would jump on it!

I really don’t have any interest in the 8 cylinder. I don’t like the sound, or the look, or the increased cost just to own the thing. True I could have sold it but I’d honestly rather just put that time and energy toward finding a 6 with the specifications I am looking for (or something close to them). I realize my opposition to the 8 is unpopular but I just find the 6 to be better overall imo.

I placed an order for an F Type R in February and took delivery last week. I attempted to order one in January but at that time I was told that the factory was only building the 4 cylinder models and I would have to wait a few weeks until they were building V8's again.
The plate with the VIN and other information shows a build date of MAR21 and it is registered as a 2021 model. I find it interesting that the factory is willing to build and ship the P450 V8 model to the US or at least substitute that engine. They are not normally available here. And interesting that the factory is willing to sell it for the same price as the P380.
Questions to ponder for the OP: The R model comes standard with a lot of features that cost extra on the P380. Was the factory offer only to switch to the 450 HP V8 and configure everything else on the car the same ? Or were they also going to upgrade the brakes, suspension, interior and other components ?
I understand that you don't like the V8 models but if you accepted their offer you would very likely have a "one off" that would have considerable resale value in the future.

Hi all,
Appreciate the replies so far. Just to clarify, the 8-cylinder that was offered to me (at the current 6-cylinder price) was the P450 model, not the currently available P575 model. Evidently the P450 model will be coming to the US for model year 2022. Additionally this was not necessarily framed as a special offer. Rather, the price was simply left unmodified from my original 6-cylinder build which leads me to believe that the P450 will be replacing the P380 for MY2022. From speaking with several dealers over the weekend, it appears Jaguar will be offering the 4 and 8 cylinders for 2022, with a rumored two variants for the 8 (presumably the P450 and P575). The P450 is likely to be offered at a similar price point to the P380, which I believe is why they didn't make any changes to the price.
The modified build can be seen here: https://smallpdf.com/result#r=659e6d...share-document.
EDIT: Does anyone know if it is customary for Jaguar to discontinue production of the current model year so early in the year in order to start producing the incoming models? I'd certainly be willing to wait a bit longer for the next batch of 2021's to be produced if in fact they'll still be making them sometime throughout the remaining 7 months of the year. Appreciate any info you guys might have.

Makes sense that for the 2022 MY JLR USA will be dumping the V6 and replacing it with the P450.
My guess is they are ramping down the production of the V6 and phasing it out completely in the not too distant future as they already have the Ingenium in-line 6 and that engine does not fit in the F-Type.
Maybe a redesigned F-Type is on the cards, with the Ingenium I6 in various states of tune such as with/without turbo, with/without leccy mild hybrid SC etc etc.
And not far down the track the V8 is consigned to the dustbin of history and replaced with a highly tuned version of the I6.
Either that or JLR really does go full leccy (don't see it happening myself) and/or the F-Type is scrapped altogether.
