Default Jaguar taxis in San Francisco ?

My son recently called for a robot taxi in San Francisco.

He was surprised that an electric Jaguar showed up to haul him.

jaguar?

he enjoyed the ride. The car drove about like he would have.

That would be one of the Waymo One vehicles, which are Jaguar I-Paces with the Waymo Driver 5th Generation Driver hardware suite. Waymo, originally one of Google's Other Bets and now its own subsidiary under Google's parent company Alphabet, is arguably leading the way in the autonomous driving space.

If you're really bored enough, you can really go down the rabbit hole on the Waymo blog with interesting challenges they've dealt with and the politics they've worked through, but here's the blog entry introducing the Jags: https://waymo.com/blog/2018/03/meet-...iving-vehicle/

It'll be cool when this tech has fully matured, but I'll forever love the F-Type for its internal combustion drama and driving experience.

And the real buttons and switches - not many of the basics you have to do through the touchscreen!

We have those in Scottsdale and downtown everywhere. As someone said they are Waymo here as well. See them self driving all around. At night and early morning you used to be able to see them testing them on the highways. A Waymo employee would ride shotgun and be testing them around the city. Now they are everywhere.

It just shocks me that an English car was chosen.

As much as I love my English cars, electrical bits have never been their forte-a.

Lucas, the prince of darkness, is a deserved name.

Lucas refrigerators is the reason the English like their beer warm!

Most electrical bits in British cars these days come from the same suppliers as everyone else, Germans, Italians, etc. We're not all living in the 1970s!

I wonder if you can request Unhinged mode for your trip?

You are about 40 years behind…given that there have not been significant Lucas parts in Jaguars (or any other car) for a very long time. The electrical bits are by Bosch, Denso, Valeo …as has been mentioned by SCM (above) the very same suppliers used by many/all European cars. Modern Jaguars are every bit as reliable as their rivals, but far more beautiful.☺️

They're pretty decent and actually cheaper than uber/lyft at times owing to the trips being subsidized for data collection purposes. And ever since Cruise ran a guy over and got their license revoked by the DMV, they're the only autonomous car company in the bay area.

Cruise is back to operating again, albeit with safety drivers (temporarily) along for the ride.

Yep I am forty years behind. In the past we could blame Lucas.

My brothers XJ had electrical issues. So did his sons. My brother needed a dash. During the better Ford era.

The Jaguar dealer just called. they cannot diagnose the issue with the light burning on my 2018 f type dash. Think maybe a new dash for god knows how much. Parking brake failure light.

They are talking to some higher power about advice.

Frankly, the electrics on my f Type pale in comparison to the Dear wifes 2016 Ram diesel..

Love the car. Dislike the electronics.

They are thick in S.F. Last time I was there, I stopped counting them. Cool to see. I looked into taking one, but from my location, Uber was faster just because an uber driver was around the corner.
