There is a reason a lot of dealerships have very low inventory of cars around the world right now (not just JLR). The chip manufacturing industry is really being affected by the pandemic which is affecting a lot of industries including the automotive industry. Unless you are dead set ordering it "your way", I would at least browse for used SVR's and if there is something that might interest you.

The local Chevy dealer has a blue C8 in the showroom. Dunno what they want for it, but I looked at white one there a couple of weeks ago. They wanted $5995 for body side molding and Addl. dealer markup of $25,000. It sold.
The C8 is the only car they have on the lot. The have about a dozen trucks (not counting commercial). It's really odd to drive by and see their lot empty.
Contrastingly, the Dodge/Jeep dealer across the street from the Chevy dealer (same owner) has a lot of Jeeps and a handful of Challengers / Chargers.

Given the relative affordability of the 2022 F-Type entry level V-8 and what looked to be the irrational exuberance in the used car market I thought it would be a good time to at least investigate moving from my base 2018 to the 2022 so I visited my local dealer and was led to believe, although not promised, that orders would start being accepted by Jaguar in mid-August. To make a long story short I sold my 2018--and for a price I would have believed fictional but a few months earlier-- and I'm driving a car that I thought would be a throw-away until my newly ordered 2022 arrived around the end of 2021 or early 2022..
Now the dealer is saying they have no idea when Jaguar will be building cars and accepting orders, and others are speculating that there may be no more new gasoline F-Types ever. Sigh!

Nearly mirrors my recent experience. JLR will start production again but only on the high volume models. From what I'm hearing, they will finish the run of F Types that were already started but then shift over to the electric stuff using this downtime to reconfigure. Sad. We will soon be living in a world where thunderous engines are gone. For what, climate? Electric car production causes more pollution than the gas cars driving around. China and India are the biggest generators of carbon but no sign of them changing. Electric cars require charging. Electricity production unless Nuclear, produces carbon emissions. It's just so frustrating.
FTR, China is the #1 producer of renewable energy, now granted due to the size of there population it needs to increase.

I tended to be of the same view but I have had a few first hand reports that the Taycan is a very, very engaging drive.
I'm happy with my 2 ICE cars and my missus' XE and in reality they could probably do me for another 5 to 10 years, but if I had to buy another daily in 3 plus years' time, it is almost certain that it will be electric (or hydrogen)

To each their own. I'm not going to knock folks for driving electric cars. Go ahead, do what you like. For me, they do nothing. I've driven the Tesla Model S Dual Motor performance version. I also think the new Audi e-Tron GT is gorgeous. Yup, they're fast, but fast isnt everything. A major component of the driving experience is the sound of a high performance, internal combustion engine. For me, you just cant replicate the thunderous roar of a raucous V8, V10, or V12 especially those that pop, crackle, and blow fire out the exhaust pipes. Sure, electric cars nat be faster in a lot of cases, but I'll take the soundtrack over all out speed.

Cars and motorsport means different things to different people, but sound for me is part of the soul of a car, take that away and you have a clinical exercise in making a machine do something. Sadly, it is the inevitable shape of things to come and I'm just glad I got to witness some of the cars I did before it is all consigned to the history books.

Seriously, go test drive a Tesla S Plaid and then tell us that the following stats are souless. I test drove a 2018 Model S 100D Ludicrous, the acceleration is mind blowing, I was giddy and giggling hours later whenever I thought about the launch. My next DD will probably be a Plaid, the SVR will have the looks and sound, but it will probably feel slow after a Ludicrous launch in the Plaid.
