Seriously, though, if anyone could give me some advice for negotiating that kind of deal (800/mo with no more than, say, 5k down, if it's reasonable), I'd be forever grateful. I've bought and sold a few cars to/from dealerships, but always feel like I leave money on the table.

I did see Hornburg has an Internet special on a black 16 R for 899/mo, but if you think I could get them down to 800, I would really appreciate any kind of help.

keep checking Hornburg website, they sometimes have some seriously good offers on their demo cars. I lost a deal on a 16 R, it was $749/m with 5k down and 10k miles/yr. I didnt make a commitment the day i test drove the car, and came back the next day i saw the car in make ready ready for delivery. I was bummed out and they tried to sell me a $121k R for $849 with 7500 miles a year, i said no and decided to go with the base instead.

I have a friend who is finance diector of the #1 Toyata dealer in Nevada and he says rates resid, everything is negotiable and any good dealer has numerous sources with many rates. It is his dept. job to make a profit and get the best deal for the store but not lose the sale. Sometimes it's Toyota some times it's Wells Fargo, etc. One might be 2.9 for 60 mos. and the other might be 3.2 and the next week the opposite. He says Chase (Ally) is hardest to deal with but sometimes has a great promotion, mostly leases.

Hornburg is one of those dealers that create demo's so check warranty start date. I shopped them and the deals were good but be sure you know what you are getting, they didn't have car I wanted at the time.

That's way too high. Dealers won't budge on British edition. I wouldn't even bother with those.

I live in San Diego and the dealers here are non-sense. So I did a search of all the Jag dealerships from Thousand Oaks down to Carlsbad all the way to Palm Springs. Sure enough I found my car at Rusnak Pasadena. I just got my 2016 V6S AWD over the weekend. Dealers are currently trying to get rid of their 2016 so you should be able to find great deals on them if you don't mind getting 2016. My car MSRP was $96K, dealer dropped it to $88K minus another $3K summer incentive and they also marked it as "demo" with only 54 miles on the odometer.

If you are leasing, I wouldn't care about the car being a demo. Hell, I was going to take an R with 5K miles on it and they were only asking for $899 a month... but that's just me.

When I buy a car the first thing I do is go to my bank and get a loan commitment, so I have established an interest rate ceiling. Then I go to the dealer to negotiate the price. If we agree on price the dealer asks how I'm going to pay. I tell him I have a loan for X%, but if he can beat that rate, he gets the loan. It works well.

On a lease I don't believe in putting money down other than the basics. First month payment, fees, and I try to negotiate the rip off dealer add on fee; which is just profit to the dealer. Never any capitalization cost reduction. You are renting, not buying; so why give them anything but the monthly rent. Yes that makes the monthly price higher, but you have a few thousand more in the bank.
