Does anyone re-program a Jag. FOB OR is there any after-market fob replacement?? None of the local dealers (***********s) do it unless you buy from them!

 

I know others have had dealers willing to reprogram JLR FOB's, but some have had issues with after-markets. A MY14 is a little easier than later years. There are some "non dealer" key programming tools which would be able to add an extra key, you just need to call around to find someone who has that tool.

That said, I'm (slightly) surprised that dealers are still being so restrictive - since +/- half of them are now out of the sales business and only providing service. You'd think they'd be looking for ways to add service business and not worried about impacting sales.

As a side note, clicking on "Search This Forum" and typing in "program FOB" will get you a dozen or so hits. I'm sure what I wrote is in there somewhere.

 

I tried several locksmiths around me. None would do a Fob I purchased. I then tried one of theirs and they couldn't get it to work (2016 R). So I ended up at the dealer in the end. Also note ONLY the dealer can get the emergency key cut and they are ONLY cut in England.

 

Just Purchased 2018 F type R Dynamic came with only one FOB, so dealer providing a second FOB, tells me the emergency key is on backorder for 5 mos. and needed to order a module in order to program 2nd FOB?
Any one else hearing similar info from a JLR dealer?

 

Just called local dealer and they told me 4-6 weeks for key and new fob.

 

I had my key fob emergency key cover accidently open and lost my emergency door key stored inside the fob. I ordered a replacement key fob off of ebay -- I didn't care if the fob part worked or not, as I really just needed the door key blank inside. I was able to take the ebay door key blank to a local locksmith and he was able to cut the key blank to match the emergency door key I still had from my second remote. I now possess 2 working fob/emergency door keys again.

No, your locksmith can cut the SK (spare key) if you have the original SK with you. If you've lost the all the KF (key fob), the only way to cut the SK is at the dealer. They need your car's VIN and they'll have it cut via JLR authorized shop

As for the KF programming, the dealer route is the only way to go. There are locksmiths that will say they can to program the KF for labor charge of $50 or more but it's a hit or miss. If it worked you pay the labor charge, if it doesn't you pay the labor charge as well.

 

That is correct. In other words, as long as you have at least one original factory key to use as a reference, you can have a local locksmith cut a blank key to match. Make sense?
