Key Fobs not working after battery unplugged (SOLVED & SOLUTION)
Hey guys,
as I managed to get my F-Type going and resolve the problem by the help of the posts in this forum, I wanted to share my experience. And I also did not find many posts with F-Types experiencing this problem
Car: 2014 F-Type S Convertible
Initial Problem: Key Fobs not working, neither lock/unlock nor keyless. Only 1 key worked with the "bypass" function after car was parked with battery disconnected for a few months
Second problem: SDD "immobilize" function failed with "Failed to write to target identifier" -> afterwards last key was also not working "Wrong smart key" message
What you need:
- Mongoose Pro Cable (China Clone) -> Google helps finding it
- Windows 7 VM with JLR SDD, I used version 160. Can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WZu0WPnOcUqwEJ (Cheers to TheMindBuddah, awesome work!!)
--> Use VirtualBox and NOT VMware Workstation (you will need to install VMWare Tools for drivers)
Reminder: This is a dangerous software, which can brick your modules/car. Espacially, when used with china cables. But it's a possibility to get the car going again. And you probably can't make it a lot worse, if you do it right ;-)
Second reminder:
Always have your laptop plugged in!!
And your car on a battery maintainer (Not a Charger!) OR Use another vehicle running to have the volts stable above 12.5 Volts
SDD Setup:
Start up the VM, Start the "Crack" on the desktop and click on "Offline" - it will tell you "OKAY"
Connect your mongoose cable, route it to the VM and wait for the software to be installed
Start SDD with the link on the desktop. It will probably ask you for a User - there's a textfile on the Desktop with the logon data.
Make sure, your VM is connected to the internet - we will need it for downloading firmware later
Ready? So, let's go!
The problem is, that some modules "forgot" the IDs of the keys. That's at least my explanation
Steps I took:
- Usually the "Battery replacement" & "Immobilize" Routines solves this problem.
See post from "Viyasan7" here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-wrong-218423/
For a better understanding on how SDD works, check out this video:
Go to diagnostics, click on a few immobilizer symptoms and some battery symptoms and let it do it's job.
Now click on "Service Functions", select the battery replacement rountine and follow the steps. If you can't switch on ignition, just click on next, it will work.
Next, look for the "Security - Immobilize" function. This will turn on the ignition by itself and write the key data to all needed modules.
If it works, you are usually done and you can start the car again.
For me, this failed with the error "Failed to write to target identifier". Afterwards my last key was also not recoginzed anymore.
If this happens, you need to set your Cluster (IPC) and Keyless Module (KVM) as a new component.
Check this youtube video, you can see the functions being carried out there:
You can find these functions at the bottom of the service section "Configure New Modules".
--> To get this going, we need to enable Internet Access for SDD. So check if your VM is connected, then go to "Settings" (upper right) and go to System Settings. Look for something like "Network Access" and enable it. The crack will still do its job, but we need to download firmware for your "new modules".
Please be very sure to have your Car above 12.5V and laptop plugged in - if something stops, you need a new module!
So start with the Cluster and follow the instructions on screen. This will update your firmware and also carry out the immobilize function at the end. This worked for me now.
Unfortunately, ignition was still not working.
So next, go with New Module Keyless (KVM) and follow the instructions. In this routine, you will need to have your keys ready and push the open button and lay them on your shifter surroundings later.
Although my keys were programmed, they did not work in the first place.
So last routine: Security - add additional keys. I did one key after each other. Same procedure: Click the open button twice, then lay them on the surroundings. Afterwards, the key was working fine with keyless and remote - Ignition was finally back.
That was my journey today... If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, I will be happy to help. Without all those youtube videos and great forum posts, I wouldn't be able to get this solved.
