Opinions on this are all over the map. I've heard so-called experts arguing both ways. I'm no engineer, but it seems to me that a slippery bolt will take more tightening to reach a given torque setting, leading to the possibility of over-torquing.

However, plenty of "experts" say it's also OK and recommend only using a small amount on the stud threads, and not getting it under the lug head.

I've always just brushed them off to make sure they were clean and used a good torque wrench.

It's the Union...Jack! [OEM]

$14.95 plus $5.00 shipping. (Sweet, and subtle, touch IMO)
Now that I have my new dedicated winter wheel/tire set up (slated to be installed Nov 1) - and since there seems to be quite a few new-comers here on the F-Type Forum - I just ordered my third set of OEM Union Jack Value Stem Covers from Columbia Jaguar and their friendly and professional internet manager Cliff. And the price, remains, about $20. (if the Union Jack isn't for you I know that there are other options available when it comes to Value Stem covers).

Best regards,
Jay
