LIGHTWEIGHT 2PC Brake Disc / Rotors for those without ceramics
Hi there
I am sure we'd all love ceramics but for those of us who purchased a used car and they came with steels retrofitting ceramics would be extremely costly and hard to do. Also even for those who did buy new the ceramics was simply too expensive an option.
Jaguar claim upto 46lbs weight saving from ceramics compared to steels:

As such I am hunting for some 2PC lighter options, I am UK based so have mainly spoken with UK companies such as Alcon, AP, Godspeed, Mtec and have also reached out to Girodisc and Brembo.
What do we know:
- 380mm front brake disc / rotors weigh 38-40lbs (18kg)
- 376mm rear brake disc / rotors weigh roughly 35lbs (16kg)
I would suspect by going 2PC the weight savings would range from 2.5-4kg per disc, so potentially possible to shave a good 15kg (33lb) of unsprung mass which is not a million miles away from the ceramic weight savings, absolute worse case you'd save 20lbs, but I'd gamble we'd be closer to 30lbs.
I have asked Girodisc for a rough costing and will share it once they let me know, we'd need 10 customers and they will most likely need an original rotor to copy to ensure everything is a perfect fitment.
I would estimate cost for a full set of brake disc / rotors at $2000-$3000 delivered, but will need Girodisc to confirm.
If others here have contacts then do please feel free to add to this thread and do your own research but I am sure we can shave some unnecessary weight from our cars whilst at the same time getting nicer looking brake disc whilst at it.
Reducing unsprung mass improves ride quality, handling and acceleration.

V6S "standard" is 380 mm front and 326 mm rear, R standard is 380 mm front and 376 mm rear. The larger rears were on option on the V6S but few chose that option ("Super Performance" brakes).
So if you have a "standard" V6S and you want to upgrade to the larger 376 mm rears you need new calipers, caliper brackets and splash shields.
How do I know this?

OK Girodisc have ordered up some 380mm and 376mm disc to copy, great service from them.
They have requested some close up photos also of a disc fitted so they can see caliper clearance, I shall take pictures for them tomorrow but if anyone here has some feel free to post up.
They have said pricing will be $1200-$1400 per axle set.
They also said they will offer grooved only, no drilled options.
They are expecting delivery Monday and if all goes well they will feed back to me next week but it looks like this may now be a possibility.

Good initiative. I am following your project closely and considering getting the Girodisks on my V6S (with Super Performance" brakes). Are you getting the disks send from Girodisk in the US to the UK? What about fitting is that a DIY or do you plan to use a specialist in the UK?

Girodisc have being doing this for a very long time. They also have a lot of Porsche customers who have ceramics that request them to make replacement steel rotors for their ceramics.
Reason being and from when I owned a 911 replacing ceramic disc gets extremely expensive if your doing track days as such a lot of owners remove the ceramic disc for track work and replace with steels but still want to keep weight down and still have a big disc that cools well.
As such a lot of the GT3 crowd use Girodisc for track work and they hold up great but is also why they won't offer drilled for obvious weaknesses.
Don't want to get anyones hopes up as they may not even be able to do this project for us, but:
Stock front 380mm rotor = 38-40lbs
Girodisc front 380mm rotor = 24lbs (Mustang)
So if they can offer us a similar weight saving were looking at 30-40lbs weight saving in unsprung mass from an entire set of 2PC Girodisc rotors.
Remember the ceramics save you 46lbs over steels, so we could be close to those numbers which would be very impressive.
If Girodisc fail I do have a backup option but they are a UK company (Wortec) who have also being doing this for some years and they said they could do and it would be around £1900 plus taxes for an entire set of disc for front and rear. The catch being they have to make 5 sets and to put it into production they want confirmed orders for 3 sets.
This is also only for 380mm front and 376mm rears.

I wonder how much weight saving there would be in new calipers as well, eg a Brembo six-piston set up? Obviously not as much saving as in the rotors but the front 380 mm calipers are big heavy ***** and surely a set of Brembos weigh a bit less.
Not so much the rears though, even the 376 mm rear calipers are relatively weeny and light, I suspect they are only a few ounces heavier than the 326 mm ones.

Great initiative Gibbo! I am a new member from Denmark with a F-type V6S convertible and interested in these light "PC rotors. It will add to the weight saving of the Stance VSforced wheels that I fitted last autumn so my unsprung weight will be as low as it can get :-) (definitely noticed the 9,5 lbs for each front wheel and the 15 lbs for each rear wheel). I can perhaps help you obtaining the required 3 confirmed orders.

2 Piece were available, can't remember if Girodisk or not, but they currently are not available from anyone as far as I can tell. I would get them if they were available. Brembo makes them but you need to get their rotors and cost over $4 K. Hoping someone makes them again that fit standard Jaguar rotors.
