Default Lipstick replacement DIY?

The dealer wants 2.8 Hrs labor or $450 to install a new lipstick ring plus $180 for the part. Anyone have DIY instructions?

If you are talking about the grill surround, you should be able to get the chrome one for about $140 and the black one for $540. Who knows why the discrepancy. Installation is easy, but time-consuming. The front nose piece has to be removed to do it. You should find full instructions in one of the P7 grille threads.

I know the price, the difference is tax. The P7 thread says remove 645 screws. Does anyone have a link to a good bumper removal DYI? A video link would be great.

Its one of those fairly obvious projects requiring only simple tools - couple small sockets, torx bits, allen drives and a screwdriver. I found it easiest to drive the car on shallow ramps ("race ramps" brand in low profile are great for our cars). Remove all the screws around the perimeter, they are all visible and in the typical locations - there are four on the bottom that angle towards the front and are only visible from below the car.. Note locations of various screw types - there are at least 3 variants and multiple lenghts on some. Have a helper for lifting the cover on and off the car. Once cover is off, grille removal is also straightforward after removing the perimeter screws, and is also easiest with two people so you do not scratch the bumber cover or bend tabs as the grille goes together.

Dealer time estimate of 2.8 hours is pretty fair - if it is your first time you may spend twice that.

Thank you! Sheeze I thought surely their est was padded. I have race ramps, but I thought it would save time to DYI it compared to driving it in. Maybe not. Thanks again.

1.Remove several dozen pan screws and remove the pans.
2. Remove a couple dozen Nose screws (plastic & metal)
3. Pull the nose forward about 6 inches. Disconnect the two parking sensors connectors and two headlight washer hoses.
4. Remove nose entirely.
5. Remove another several screws from the back side of the grille and surround. That’s a 4 part system: surround, upper & lower grille., bumper cover.

This would be a good time to decide if you want to debadge the S or R.

It really is this easy. It’s self-evident as you go through the process and the reason why I didn’t bother taking pics of the process. Hope this helps. One of the other P7 grille installers might have some pictures of the process.

Here is a thread I bookmarked a while ago...

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...cement-132987/

I have to remove the front clip also for the same reason as the linked thread, front license plate screw holes. Same process to get at the grill surround.

It is on my 'To Do' list so once I get into it, I will grab some photos and add any pointers to the instructions.

The photos from the original thread look like they are missing but I saved a copy for reference. Photo credit to the original poster.

Good point.

My thought is the 2014 V8S will become the only collectable F-Type. First MY, limited production, RWD, front gills, same engine as R and SVR but with best tune for engine condition, all convertibles.

So I would not debadge an 8 CYL S model, keep the miles in check and only sell at a strong profit.

If any one has a perfect 2014 V8S with around 5K miles please ping me if you will sell. Prefer Firesand w/black pack. Cash. Will entertain multiples and other colors.

I would also suggest that the 2015 V8R will be collectible as the only RWD V8 Coupe (only 1 year of production vs 2 for the V8S)

Just did mine last weekend (big thanks to unhindg!!!!)
front clip on the F-Type comes off super quick, (if you have done it before) but making the new surround and grill fit is tricky and will take longer then they quoted you specially on ramps, but doable in a day. you will also need parking sensor holders.

Nice work! Looks great with the BRG color.

My OCD made me get an artist brush and paint the parking sensor mounts gloss black - I found they looked greyish and stood out too much from the gloss black on the grille. Obviously, care needs to be taken to not paint the actual sensor.

Thanks! I agree, my first thought was the flat black would look best and be less "stand out"...but all together the grill is too shiny to hide them with with a flat or matte finish. i plan on taking it all apart again soon anyways for some airbox mods, will be painting them.
