were you guys in the Press Hotel at the same time as the Mercedes guys?

Mercedes was hosting a press drive for the launch of the new C-Coupe with various reporters staying at the Press Hotel.

Wow absolutely phenomenal! Well done Jay. It was a great pleasure going through all these photos. Hope it inspires one of the southern board members to do something like that around here! Although I suspect very few of us have the connections to pull something like this off - I couldn't do it.

No, we didn't see them.

Driving north from Portland towards Conway, NH, we saw at least a dozen MB C-300's in groups driving south from wherever they were. This was Thursday morning, May 12. But no, we did not see them at The Press when we were there.

They're still here. Talk about junkets. Not only do I think that MB has been here since the day after the Lobster Run, which ended last Sunday, but having just left there not 45 minutes ago, they're still there.

The Press Hotel, wining dining and driving - all on the house - not a bad gig.

P.S. Not thrilled with the rear end of the C-Coupe...at least from what little I saw.

You should only see the front, in your rear view mirror.

CORRECTION:

As I blew blast them doing God-knows-what-speeds, I wasn't thrilled by the rear end(s) which I passed in a blink of an eye.

Yes. Wish I had been invited by MB! Would have been able to intercept you there too.

Problem with the rear end of the C-Coupe is that they kept the same roof as the sedan. That makes it hard to have a sleek back.

That makes sense. Of course I flew past them so fast I really couldn't tell which end was which. Isn't that right Dave?

I invite you (just not putting you up in The Press Hotel and paying for all your meals. Maybe one of them ). I even have an extra 2016 Jaguar Lobster Run t-shirt left (designed by yours truly but paid for, entirely, by Continental Tire) - only in Large, if that works for you - which I would be happy to send you, just PM me your address and I will pop it on the mail on Monday.

And another thing, if you subsequently read reviews about the MB C-Coupe and about Portland, about The Press Hotel, and about any of the places they ate, remember: you were there first.

And as we all know, if you're not first...you're last.

Default Final tally for the Lobster Run.

We arrived home late last night from our "Marvelous Adventure" driving to the Lobster Run and an extended vacation along the way. Here is the final tally for our drive: 25 days traveling, visited 22 states, 6084 miles, 29.0 mpg average for the entire trip, and still married. Anyone want to know if the Performance Seats are comfortable or the trunk is big enough for an extended trip? Also, I found ethanol-free premium in Rapid City, SD, at a Mobil station by chance. Didn't see a single F-Type along the way, except the other Lobster Runners, but we mostly avoided the big cities.

Glad you made it home safely. What a great trip! Did you go down the front range, or via Steamboat? Or some other way?

Wait! Come back! You forgot your book of prose by Robert Gibbons. Let me know when you plan to be here and I'll come outside my office to hand it to you. We can go to Scales that night for dinner (no police escort needed).

Thanks again for coming and it was a genuine pleasure meeting you (and thank you again for your splendid book of poetry).

You made me unpack my suitcase just now where I found my autographed copy of Gibbon's book, luckily. Oh, so that was a way to lure me back... but already? I just got home. And Tuesday I'm taking the car into Denver, 130 miles, for an oil change. Thanks for thinking of us; we have great memories and photos to share of a special event.

DJS, we ran out of time; we had to be home on Saturday. So from Rapid City we took the short way home via Torrington, Cheyenne, and the Front Range.

Default While On The Subject of Robert Gibbons...

He just left my office bestowing me with a gift, shortly before he and his beautiful wife Kathleen leave Portland for Denver...and not in an F-Type and, one assumes, for good. I/we will miss them dearly.

He's headed your way Matt...something to keep in mind going forth(?). You will not find a more talented or interesting person than Robert Gibbons. But, you probably know that already.

We'll be expecting your book report. The good news is, now you have an excuse to go on the Rocky Mountain Oyster Run.
