+1 Yes, Welcome, Lookout. One of the things that keeps the F-Type section of this forum alive and fun, and keeps the sometimes cranky veterans from debating minutiae, is the continued influx of new people. The excitement and enthusiasm of new owners is contagious.

1. I wanted a manual
2. I wanted LSD
3. I wanted the most power I could have with #1 and #2
This is the first true sports car Jaguar have done since the E-type. I've had lots of GT cars and there are lots of those to chose. A real sports car has a manual gearbox. I gots to have the manual! It's not about how fast the gearbox can change gears, it's about the driving experience of changing the gears.
Just MHO!

I drove the V6S AWD on track (Bilster Berg in Germany) and I own V8R AWD. I dont consider the AWD as a necessary option for it has not the impact on a racetrack (or maybe also on a mountain road), as i thought. The V6 and V8 tend much more to understeer at high corner speeds and the AWD makes it feel even more to understeer. I think the awd is not that advanced for agility, it is more for launch control and traction purpose. Drove R8 V8 also on racetrack. Audi AWD was much more sophisticated...difference felt like night and day. But i am a track novice so it is just my personal opinion.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't let the exhaust note alone determine whether or not I purchased a base model or the "S" (mine is a 2015 V6S Coupe by the way).
Good luck and welcome.

The answer is that the base sport exhaust is somewhere in the middle. The active exhaust is louder with the valves open, but quieter with the valves closed. The primary difference is active valves open produces a deeper bass tone, and bass notes are perceived louder by the human ear than higher frequencies.
Pictures are worth a 1000 words. First pic is photoshopped to illustrate the base exhaust. Second is the active.
