Interesting video. I interpreted it as 2% loss in the gearsets, which wouldn’t include torque converter loss?

And last time I looked at a lock-up torque converter, it’s still using fluid coupling in the ‘locked’ state, so there must still be some loss.

Easily the best transmission I’ve driven, though that isn’t saying a lot.

By definition, direct drive refers to the tranny input shaft turning at the same rate as the output shaft. That occurs only in 6th gear on the AT and 5th gear on the MT.

I think he's saying the locked gearset makes it "effectively" direct drive. It's hard to say without seeing whatever media release he is sourcing.

The it must be some kind of torque converter reference (not my wheelhouse).
