Hi I have a 2016 F Type R with 24k miles or 40k kms.

wondering about the upper and lower coolant pipes.
I am not sure what year Jaguar changed to the new design.

I am considering changing the coolant pipes and at the same replace water pump and super charger oil as a preventative measure before they leak.

How common is this coolant pipe leaking a problem and should I just wait till it leaks ?
Please let me know

The TSB concerning the redesign came out in 2018, so you probably have the old design unless it was already changed. Best to look at what's there. Look for what look like pinch weld seems along the sides of the upper and lower pipes - those are the old ones.
Everybody has a different tolerance for problem areas like this. I've left mine alone, but then I also maintain a closer vigilance over all of my vehicles than some others I know.

Pretty common,

If you plan on removing the supercharger for any reason, I’d do it then

Red face Yes, replace them

Have been working with my dealer and encouraging a closer look at the pipes. Until I sent clips of what OWNERS were going through with the old style flanged pipes, the tech was not that concerned as he had not seen any instances of failures. With my 2017's end of warranty being March 31,2022, I brought the car in last Dec. for some minor stuff. Minor yeah, but the shipping time for the repl parts was unreal. Anyway. He took another look at my pipes and decided that they should be replaced. I also gently encouraged him, again with info from this site regarding the nasty oil that could be in the SC after 5-6 years (my car was built late 2016), to do the oil replacement. He is currently (this week) researching that aspect, but I am hopeful that getting that done while the car is apart for the pipes will be possible (and some of it covered). The tech is of the old-school, frequent oil change thinking and he found an old SC in the shop to see what it took to change the oil. All his JLR documentation said "sealed, good for 100,000 miles" and he has indicated that the instructions/photos I sent him were very helpful, again from the OWNERS experience and perspective. I may get the car back sometime in 2022 :-)

As part of my “staying ahead of trouble” policy with my 14’ V8S. I had the annual service done and also had them replace the coolant pipes throughout, did full oil, filter, SC oil, etc. And for good measure had them replace my drivers side front tire that had gotten the sidewall bulge. The bill came to $1700 for all of that. The actual coolant pipe replacement part of the bill was about 1200. Mostly labour as they had to take the SC off to do everything.

note, even the best goof up from time to time. My independent service shop that did this and several other outstanding service jobs for me got the two sensors on the rear of the engine reversed and didn’t see the codes it through until I came to pick it up. They noticed it coming out of the service bay and tried to change them from the top only to end up having to remove the SC again to fix it. They were so apologetic and of course didn’t charge me for this extra service….it took a little longer to bring the cat home but it was worth it and having the piece of mind that everything is in good order.

Next year I’m having them do the diff and the transmission fluid changes to keep as far ahead of trouble as possible.

Default 2015 V8 R

With the V8 it is Especially important to keep ahead. My suggestion if you get to the point where they have to remove the SC try and get them to do ALL the work possible. It Will take longer but the peace of mind is worth it.

That is a great price for all the services you had done. My dealer quoted $2500 just for the coolant pipe replacement. Since they said pipes still look good, I opted to wait until next year's service to do it.. It cost me $1900 for the oil/filter change, coolant drain refill, sparkplug replacement and supercharger belt replacement. I need to find a dependable and experienced independent shop.

I got lucky with my extended warranty. Changing the old superseded coolant pipes, suspension bushings, oil pan, intake manifold, fuel pump, water pump, Fuel injectors, engine mounts, the tech is amazing so he is installing the upper pulley upgrade (lower pulley is already done) installing an after market “Charge Cooler” as they call it over at Viezu. Upside all this work is covered. Downside…it’s been months lol.

Yes that is the upgraded one I have. Note to anyone reading this? Please get it from the manufacturer as it will save you a boat load of cash! 995 GBP .Vs. 560 GBP! Paramount is just a reseller. In fact the IC comes with a Allisport sticker on it which clued me in to who really makes it. Also even though the listing is for the F-Type this will fit ALL SC cars. F-Type, XF and XJ.
Upgraded Intercooler

No what I meant was which warranty did you get? That is above and beyond what I would expect from any warranty so they treated you very well!

Does anyone know the part number of the rear water manifold as I can't find it. I may as well replace it along with the y pipe during my winter project.

I have a 2014 XJR with the same engine and I have AJ814007. Between $90-$125 depending on where you get it. I find EBay the cheapest for now.
Parts listing indicates it fit's across all 5.0L SC engines including your F-Type.

Just a note? We have rumors that this MAY be released in lifetime Aluminum sometime in the near future. Let's hope this happens!

Got bit by the leaking coolant outlet pipe today. My Jag dealer in Atlanta wants $1,265 in materials and $4,200 in labor to replace the coolant outlet pipe and thermostat! That is insane. I have located a local Import repair shop that quoted $850. Guess I know which will get a shot at the repair.

Default check the parts list

My 2017s pipes were replaced under warranty, but here is the list of what was also replaced as 'suspect': I also bought a set of the EuroAmp aluminum pipes (2-piece) for the next go-round.

Valerie, Thanks for the information, that is a lot of parts. I am not too upset at the materials cost but the $4200 labor is a bit exorbitant. I told them I was not looking for a new engine and they replied a new engine would be $25-30k, I told them the Jag is not even valued for that amount on the books! All I got was silence. This may be my first and last Jag.

If they are only charging you $850 for the Job I would actually go else where. It shows they they don’t actually know how much work is involved and have never done that repair before and couldn’t even be bothered to look and see how extensive a job it is. False economy I’m afraid.
If it’s your brother in law giving you a significant discount then that makes sense . If you don’t have any connection with them be wary.

Default It's the labor time

Not sure what the dealer's hourly charge is.. but it is a 'massive' operation to get to all these pipes for replacement. The supercharger has to come off. here is the forum thread that goes through taking it off,

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...tailed-241371/

I think you will get a better idea of what's involved... so yes, as Borbor said, you may want to check elsewhere, here is a link that may help:

I had a local independant performance euro shop install the aluminum coolant pipes on my 2015 R. They did an excellent job and cost was around $400 for gaskets and fluid. Labor was $1080. The dealer quoted $2500.
