Sign me up for the V-Belt. I'd like to revert back to the OEM idler pulley. Is the belt available as a standalone item on your website?

It's not, but we can probably list it on its own.

Is there any advantage to swapping back to the oem idler pulley and belt?

We also have a double-sided belt for certain applications, this retains the stock idler pulley.

We have had some people report issues, some no problem. I have a guy looking at it to figure it out.

I checked with my local dealer to get a feel for lower pulley installation.
They said it's an 8 hour task and they do it from the topside.
The threads I have seen on the forum are all from underneath and average 4-5 hours.

Has anyone tried it from the topside? (a setup for fun banter, so please restrain yourselves ...)

Not even sure how you would get to it from the top without removing a whole bunch of stuff.

Did you do it 100% from underneath? or did you remove tubing on the top to help with belt reinstallation?

I don’t remember having to remove anything to change the belt last time, but some loosening of brackets might be required to swap the idler if you are converting to a one sided belt. I’ll know for certain in a couple of weeks when I convert back to a two sided belt.

PS: Just checked my local performance guy who’s done a couple of these, and it’s all done from the bottom (~4hrs) and did drop the belt in from the top (no disassembly) to route it. As a point of reference, Just got a quote on labor to replace the clutch & flywheel: dealer $1800, performance shop $600.

My local performance shop charged about three hours ($330) to install my crank pulley from VAP.

My installer did it entirely from underneath and took 1.75 hours.
But I had already removed both undertrays to save time and labour cost as removing and replacing those takes at least an hour even on a hoist.

That saves a ton of time... highly recommended to do this.

Stuart when are you listing the v-belt individually on the site?

Was trying to figure out if we could make the Ecomm work to make these hidden products, but doesn't look like it will work. We will only be supplying these to customers who have purchased our crank pulley kit, and as replacements to existing customers. Best thing to do is, anybody who wants to order a spare/new belt who has our crank pulley, just email me at stuart@velocityap.com with your full name & shipping info and we'll handle it manually.

Just curious, what is a typical cause for a super charger belt to spontaneously fail? Like literally turn into bits of thread?

Installing the wrong pulley will cause the shredding. The lower pulleys for the early model F-Types have a slightly different offset than those for the later models (I don't know the cutoff date). The offset is the width of one belt rib and will cause the belt to jump the pulley by that one rib, eventually shredding that belt to a point of failure. VAP and Eurotoys are now familiar with the issue and will get you the right pulley if the wrong one was delivered to you.
