Default Help! How low is too low?

I just lowered my 2013 XK with the H&R springs. H&R's website says the springs lower approx. 1.3" but the suspension shop who did the work says it dropped 1.6". Now I have the adaptive dynamic mode fault code on the dash and the dynamic mode does not function. The dealer cleared the code but it came back. Does anyone know if the 1.6" drop was too much? Would spacers help? Anybody else have the same issue with their F Type?

You might be better off asking someone on the XK forum. However, if H&R says 1.3", they generally mean it. You should contact them directly with your issue. You may have received the wrong springs. The 1.6" could well be an issue if the sensors are detecting movement beyond some preset limits.

I recently learnt that yes the height sensors on these late model cars are also part of the Dynamic Stablity Control system (in past models it was only for the headlamp leveling) so if the car is too low after fitting new springs then you get these sort of faults.

The DSC height measurement can be re-calibrated with the IDS/SDD diagnostic system which should clear these errors you get. (I found the function in the SDD while I was working on something else).

In fact even if your car is not showing any errors after lowering, I would suggest to get the height re-calibrated anyhow.

To the best of my knowledge, our springs are the only type available that offer a tapered rod design in X5 Steel. I'm not sure at what point we can all call our designs 'fully' progressive, but we do offer an additional design feature which has been reported across multiple F-Type platforms, as well as Aston DB9, V8 Vantage, and Sportpack cars to have excellent ride quality despite lowering.

The H&R spring wire is not only coiled to a smaller radius at the top, but the wire seems to narrow as well. Might have been an optical delusion.

With the H&Rs, ride quality on dynamic setting is just a bit firmer than the OEM springs, but very smooth. However, on the standard setting the ride is a bit jittery, and obviously under-damped. I don't think anyone will be disappointed with either the H&R or the VelAP springs.

You do, however, need to assess whether you will have enough ground clearance to traverse your typical paths of travel. The 1/2" difference between those two options could be huge. Some folks even note inadequate ground clearance with the OEM suspension. I, however, have so far not encountered any clearance issues with the H&Rs despite all the DC area speed bumps I cross. The big problem seems to be for those with steep driveways and garage ramps.

2013XK I haven't heard of anybody getting that code so like Unhingd said perhaps you received the wrong springs.

Also not to hijack the thread but Unhingd do you have any pictures of your F Type lowered?

I have to take back what I said above:Lowering F-Type

For the base and S cars (incl. V8S), H&R claims a 1.2" drop (1.3" for the R, different spring set).

This is what mine actually measured:
Rear:1.5"
Front: 1.375" (front wheel well still .25" lower than rear)

No tire rub under severe cornering and braking.
No (additional) bottoming-out issues (though, I do take speed bumps more slowly than before).
No error codes.

Highly recommended if you don't use technical climbing gear to ascend your driveway.

Very useful info...thanks. I'm still waiting for Stuart to assess specifics to lower 2016 R convertible and think I want a less aggressive lowering spring.
