Not sure whether the coupe is same as the vert in having an "emergency" interior trunk release.
Doe not make much sense in the vert as you can barely fit a hamster in there.
But if you have the interior trunk release you might check to ensure it is not somehow obstructed in the "open" position.

The US government (and perhaps other jurisdictions) mandates the emergency release handle that glows in the dark.

We do everything we can to protect our hamsters!!!

+++++++++++++

More seriously

Does the luggage compartment not LOCK, or not LATCH?

^^^ This... get those fobs a LONG LONG way away. Or shield them by placing them them in your fridge.
Also, replace the batteries if its been a couple years.

If its a latching issue, a few drops of a light oil on the latch pawl might do the trick.

thanks a lot. Tried all suggestions so far. It latches but will not lock. The coupe has the emergency release and it appears to be as it was delivered. The rear lid will also pop up about an inch when that graphic is depressed on the key fob.

See the owners manual.

Is it only intended to lock when the car is locked?
If so, do you have windows up and rest of car locked?

How are you testing that it's not locked? Are you keeping the fobs a long way away? If you have a fob close by you will always be able to open the trunk with the under-trunklid button (assuming keyless entry). Or is the remote app reporting the trunk is not locked?

Thanks, maybe this will "break the code" as I will try it. Yes I have been locking the car using the fob and then opening the trunk via the undertrunklid button with the fob in my pocket.

Can you press the "close lid" button on the upper right edge of the open hatch lid? It's a graphic with the car lid open. MY2017 here, not sure all have that feature.

Ok thanks everybody issue solved. I tried double clicking and then put the fob about 30 feet away and magically it worked as advertised.

I don't understand what the issue is. That is, if it's latched, how is it not locked? I have the automatic lift, so mine unlatches and opens when I press the button on the fob, and also if I press the button on the underside of the back if I have the fob with me. If I don't, the button on the hatch does nothing.

EDIT: I should have refreshed the page before I replied. D'oh!

Powered tailgate is an option - my MY18 doesn't have it. Just something else to go wrong ...

Powered tailgate was not an option for me when I ordered to my own specs; it was standard. I'd have preferred without (weight and complexity).
