Default Maintenance costs

Hi all, I have a 2016 Firesand convertible. My annual (12 month) service is due. My cost is in the $600-$800 range dependant on whether a pollen filter is needed or not. Synthetic oil/filters etc. Do you guys feel it is imperative or necessary that only a certified Jaguar technician do this?...I have a local European specialty shop that could do it for less...just want your thoughts...Its not really the cost (although it wont hurt if its cheaper) but rather the convenience as my Jaguar dealer is a 2.5 hour drive away...
Thanks in advance for any comments...

Pollen filter is literally less than $20 off Amazon for the same exact Carbon Filter they use. The oil and filter you need, can be found from FCP Euro for around $140 shipped to your door. Purchase any sort of Mityvac type of Oil Pump and the Oil Filter cap adapter for another $100-130 and you will have all the tools you need to do this in the future. I would not pay the dealer $600 for an oil change and cabin filter. The filter is literally 5 minutes to do (unscrew 3 plastic screws on passenger side engine bay compartment and a plastic cover comes off, remove, reinstall new filter and done. Happy to help if you'd like to DM me or a ton of DIY posts about this too.

I take mine to an independent shop that specializes in JLR. Not only are they cheaper, they have never overfilled my oil.

If you have a competent shop that will work on your car, skip the dealer - especially on routine maintenance items.
Things like the cabin air filter will take you 30 minutes - but only if you take a 25 minute break. As suggested, get an oil vac and DIY.
You didn't state your overall mileage, but it might be time to check on brakes. Do the fluid change every 3 years, per the manual, but
again is another case you can skip the dealer. Think about switching out the brake pads before they're due and look at Porterfields.
If you don't push the job off too far, you should be able to skip the discs (but your friendly local dealer might well say you "must" do
them all at once. Nah.

There are definitely things that your local shop is unlikely to touch - particularly if it involves the electronics and/or needs JLR test equipment

I use a non dealer Jag specialist here in the UK. Excellent service. In my opinion, no need to use a Jag dealer (and pay the extra rates) unless perhaps your car is in a warranty period with a particular dealer.

I was initially a little nervous about working on my cat, but have recently completed the work you mentioned. As folks have said, you can source the tools and consumables easily, and the actual jobs are easy. Pollen filter took maybe 3 minutes, oil/filter change maybe 45(including a drive to O’Reilly Auto Parts to dispose of waste oil and used filter).

You can source all the materials for your car in Canada at

https://germanparts.ca/

Just put your year and model in.

The most important point is the oil meeting JLR specs....That I would not trust the independent to source properly as there are only a few sources.

I have roughly 35,000 kilometres...have had (2) oil and filter changes done since May 2020.
Thanks for your response...
