going to order one of these intakes - not really fussed with the power, more so want to run an open filter element to get more charger whine

Let us know your results if you decide to dyno before and after.
I'll be doing the upper tubing segment in carbon shortly, which would be a great add to finish the system out.

my mate bought one for his z4, and even with a multi purchase price, it was close to 3 times the price of his

Cambo has posted on this issue, including just recently. The OEM intakes on the V6 and V8 F-Types are identical (same part number). If that intake is good for 550HP, then it's probably more than adequate for your V6S, and your gain will probably be zero.
Perhaps there is a reason to upgrade on an R, but I can't comment on that.

Don't worry, I'm just like you. If it sounds cool, I'll do it. I doubt any intake on the market will increase power for the R. I want that sc whine. HWHHRHRRRRRRRRR

lol. Thanks Foosh and appreciate the info. I agree the $2,000 is a lot of money and if not worth probably won't but still my curiosity will get the best of me so I would like to hear and see if the sound is worth it. It would have to sound amazing for me to venture down that road, but if I do it's behind the other list of items I have scheduled for the next 45 days. =)

Getting rid of the Heimholtz resonators on the intake piping is also a key aspect of increasing the noise, i.e. going to straight tubing.
EDIT
And metal does make a difference, there is a reason why trumpets and saxophones are made of brass and not polyethylene.

Not my experience. I put a cold air intake on the Land Cruiser when it had the original straight 6, and had to go back to stock because the intake became deafening. Minor modifications to the air box on my MINI made a huge difference on SC whine. In fact, over 4k rpm you can only hear the SC over the sport exhaust. On the V6S, I have to be pushing redline just to get a hint of whine. (of course, that sound is competing with the exhaust in open mode).

Misunderstood you. I categorize noise as intake noise, engine noise and exhaust sound. No doubt in my mind the V8 exhaust sound inside the cockpit will always supersede any other kind of noise without disconnecting the symphonator, or whatever they call it. Fortunately, engine noise (mostly valve train) can only be heard at idle on the F-Type. The Triumph Thunderbird is nothing but valve train noise.

It's not just a function of decibel level. The V6 makes it's noise at higher frequencies than the V8. I can see how the V6 at WOT might be more likely to almost completely mask the sound of s-charger whine. I barely hear it well.
