The F-Type definitely has "hill assist". If you are on any uphill incline, the brakes remain applied for about 2 seconds after the brake pedal is released.

+1. You don't even need to release it all that slowly. With the dual mass flywheel and the clutch delay valve, you pretty much have to leave your foot on the brake to stall the engine. Now..if we could just get the clutch to quit slipping.

I think the ECM is giving it gas for you. Throttle-by-wire is probably adjusting for the detected drop in RPM and trying to maintain idle speed. My C30 is also DBW and has similar behavior.

I wonder if we experienced manual drivers could petition JLR to remove the metering valve for some reasonable price if we can prove our proficiency. I have found that dynamic mode accentuates the unusual behavior of the clutch in first gear.

If I could find that damned valve, I'd yank it out myself. It's likely built into the throwout cylinder or master cylinder since a standalone valve fitting can't be found in the hydraulic circuitry.

But it's not just the metering valve. After we added about 25 lb-ft of torque, we detected some slippage on the dyno even after the clutch had been let out and allowed to fully engage before applying serious throttle. Clutchmasters is willing to custom build a higher performance clutch, but they will need the spent clutch, plate, throw-out cylinder and entire flywheel for measurements to put together the right clutch/plate/throwout cylinder kit.

Please let me know if you hear of a wrecked MT that is getting parted out.

That lends credence to the DBW connection with at least that bit of interesting behavior.

My last car was the G37 IPL manual, I don't think it had that function -- but I hear you, on the higher end cars, the manufacturers probably assume they're doing us a favor.

Hill assist doesn't do a thing to harm performance, and probably helps a bit in terms of clutch wear. It was a terrific innovation, and they did "do us a favor."

+1. I really don't need it, but I do like it.

I was like, huh? Someone's opinion after just 100 miles? WELL... dear me. It's an incredibly well informed opinion. Great write up. Thanks. Same with Orkney... weird I missed this manual thread on lead up to arrival of mine, but maybe I tried to ignore the bits of negativity. =)

I am 5000 miles in, less about 75 miles. I can say... it can be loud in dynamic, but doesn't have to be. A favorite is that crackling purr you get when decelerating in 2nd, going down a hill about 28-24 miles an hour. It's an amazing subtle sound, a delicious gurgling.

But your #6 -

I am shifting like a crazy person just to hear sounds I like. It is not about efficiency. LOL I am sure that we are not going to get as good of gas mileage as the automatic, because we're probably revving high and cackling like idiots. LOL

It's not just about the control, but the overall experience. I would say once every couple weeks I realize that this car exists without a manual transmission, and it absolutely makes me, genuinely, sad. It's obscene to think this vehicle is out there in an automatic transmission. lol No elitism here tho. ha

It's more of an ennui where I shake my head and try hard to ignore it. =^D

August 16th, day I picked mine up (& drove directly to Tahoe from SF Bay), is now an important date in my life.

ENJOY ENJOY =)

Yes, perhaps a bit more informed than any other opinion back in July since I was the only person on the forum with an MT at the time.

+1. Almost at 6000 miles.

All true!

That is my occasional thought, as well, but others see it differently. That's why they print menus.

I picked up my car on July 4th. That's an important date in every American's life. lol

Ya'll are making me really want one. I can't wait for them to start taking orders for the '17's.

Now 6 months of ownership, and about 7,000 miles. Including two good sized road trips. The car is still the best thing I have ever driven. I agree that there are ways it can, and probably will be improved, but I do not regret my purchase.

If anything, the car runs better now than it did when it was brand new. I continue to find hidden zones of performance, noise and fun responses to corners, rain, hills and flat out endless highways.

A great moment was around 6:00 AM in Western Arizona on I-8. No one for miles on a straight, flat interstate, save a lone trucker making his best possible speed westward. I decided to pass him rapidly, and spooled up the magical V6 to ever higher speed. As the RPMs crossed 4800 (in 6th gear mind you), I noticed the engine noise elevated dramatically, which startled me somewhat. Looking to my right, I saw the trucker jump also as I flew by him with a roar.

I hope the poor fellow was only startled. I was moving pretty fast.

Orkney.
