Default Maps navigation software version

I just updated my nav maps software for the first time.
Apart from needing to buy a USB3 memory stick ( the 2.0 version could not handle the download) and the fact that the handbook instructions were incorrect, It went well after gettng the correct download site from Jaguar Customer Service.
I could only guess that there might have beeen an update and indeed fortunately there was a newer version.
Hopefully, it will have beeen updated to show the correct highway exits for Massachusetts.
They were all changed this year to fall in line with natiional standards.
My question is whether anyone knows how to tell what software version is loaded on the nav. system, and how to tell if there is an update available.
Going through the motions just on the off chance that there is a newer version is a PITA

My 2018 will show a message on the center display when there is a map update available. Updates come out every month near the end of the month. I do not know the exact day.

It takes about 18 months give or take for recent changes to show up in the maps.

I'm actually very impressed with (a) how quickly the map updates come out (end of each month), and (b) how quickly they reflect new data. MA finished its highway renumbering just this month and all of the new exit numbers from June and July were already in the August update.

Not sure if MY21 uses the same updates, but I just check the Jaguar Map Updates website:

Jaguar Navigation Map Updates

Log into your InControl account and then go to the Maps & Services link at the top right of the page. It will show you the current version number. Right now it's 08.030.0123.0154 which came out on 08/28/2021. Write down that number and visit the site the last few days of the month and you'll see that number change. When it does, download the update and upload into the car on the USB stick. Very easy and very quick.

I'm taking my car into the dealership later this week for it's annual maintenance. Is this navigation update something I can have them check for me and possibly update if needed? This technical stuff with a USB stick is not in my wheel house Thunder Dump : )

Portlander: I would expect that if you have decent dealer they would do it. Especially given your age!!
I suggest you take your own USB 3.0 (Amazon) for them to use for the download.
The download took about 15 minutes. Uploading to the car took about 10 minutes.
So I expect they will charge you $200!! (just kidding)

Thanks, though I wouldn't recognize a USB 3.0 if I tripped over one. Is this something I can pick up at Best Buy? Maybe I should refer to my trusty Rand McNally road atlas for directions seeing that technology is not one of my strengths. I do know how to burn CD's off of my iMac!

Or, instead of relying on updated Exit numbers, you could just observe the descriptions on the exit signs.

EG, "Take Exit XXX onto the Massachusetts Turnpike west"

You'd have to be very unsteady on your feet to trip over one!

The pedant in me wants to point out that USB 3.0 is a protocol, I think you're talking about a memory stick supporting that protocol.

They should be able to do it for you, but it still requires an active InControl account that they would have to log into for you. Or wait a year and I'll update it for you at the next non-event event.

Thanks for the offer and I do have the Jaguar Remote app loaded on my phone if that's what you mean by an active InControl account?

I have the app installed for my ‘18 XE with ICTP, but I’ve never completed the next step of creating an account and getting ICTP to log into it. My car gets software updates over-the-air, but not map updates. My app can control the car, but IIRC, the account I created for that is separate from what ICTP is trying to log into. Haven’t bothered to figure it out.

You can email Brian or Dan at Scarborough to ask about it.

When you uploaded the map update from the USB3 stick to your car, did you do it while driving or with the engine idling ? I know that if you have the car powered up in the accessory mode it will automatically shut down within a few minutes and I imagine that might disrupt or corrupt the file transfer if you had to turn the car back on and continue.

When uploading to the car, the instructions are:

1. start the car (which I assumed meant to actually start the engine) and ensure the nav system is turned on.
2. Remain staionary (with engine running)
3. Insert USB (3.0 or better) with preloaded map update
4.followw on scereen prompts
5. remove USB when update complete
6. nav system will shut down and restart
7.click "continue" to return to home screen.

Now you can turn engine OFF. - my engine was running the whole time but the upload only took approx 10 minutes.

Excellent, thanks for the info CJSJAG. My car is only a few months old but since there was an update on 8/28/21 I may as well install it. As soon as I get a USB3 stick anyway.

I dislike the new numbers on the Mass Pike. Exit 137? 98? Goodness. It was 1 through 18 to get from western Mass to Allston-Brighton.
