Default michelin tire life

Will likely be signing a new 3 year lease for an f type R AWD. There has been debate over the best tires and most say michelin. I honestly dont know much about tires and models so which ones specifically are the good michelin ones?

My other questions is how long they will last. My pirelli rears lasted about 1.5 years and the front about 2 years, could have stretched them longer by only a few months maybe per dealer. I only have 15,000 on the car now until my lease expires in 4 months. Do you think the michelins will last the entire 3 years??? figuring no more than 30,000 miles over the 3 years. Just trying to figure if i should slap the michelins on upon lease arrival or just burn the pirellis into the ground early for free and then add michelins to ride out the rest of the lease. Thanks!

My MPSS have somewhere in the 17K to 19K miles (I'd have to check to see when I put them on.) They still have some tread (~5/32") left but are getting noisy, so I'll change them this fall.

I removed the Pirelli's right after delivery, and put on a new set of Michelin PSS. Pirelli's will likely go back on at some point prior to lease return for the next owner to enjoy , or may offer them up for sale here at a very reasonable discount if anyone needs a set.

There is no way any y rated ultra high performance tire will last 30k miles under spirited driving conditions. Count on 15k-20k miles for the Michelins. Less for the Pirellis.

Totally agreed. On an AWD R, you'll be replacing the tires at least once over 30k miles. Probably at least twice. My Pirellis will not make 10k.

Kindly define: spirited driving conditions.

I did ask.

I don't think that there's ever been a more comprehensive answer than this. Of course it comes by way of The Unhingd One so I should have known.

In my previous SLK55 my rears went every 6k! Mercedes spec Conti's. Fronts were great when I traded at 14k miles.

For reference, the rear Pirellis on mine are close to the wear markers after 14k.

But they're cracked.

Fronts still serviceable.

3 years...

Last night I got a TPMS warning on the Dash, left rear down to 30 psi, I pulled over into a Car park, checked it with a Digital Gage, sure enough, exactly what the Car said.

Anyway, this morning I checked it out again, still the same, so inflated all the Tires to 36 psi, too much I know, but more on that in a bit.

The F-Type is 18 mths old, my wife's DD with 11500 miles on it, looks like it will need new Rear Michelins in 3-4k miles, so that's 15k miles, new Tires.

Back to the 36psi, what pressure do you Guys run at? Just curious. Ours is a base V6 always used for normal A-B driving.

Thanks in advance Guys.

The recommended pressure is 36 PSI but I find that a bit hard riding so I have always run mine at 34 PSI and never had a problem.

I put in 36 and don't worry about them till they get to 34-33. More often they warm up and pressure hot runs closer to 38 I've noticed.

Thanks Guys. The sticker on the Door says 37 but even at 36 it seems a bit high. At least I learned something, the alert comes up at 30 and it is very accurate. Plus 33-36 seems a good range when cold.

I actually run 38. I don't find it harsh and it feels just a bit sharper to me.
