So a tall pickup truck backing out of its parking spot miscalculates and turns too early and scrapes my car. He owned up to it immediately and found the owner (me). He has insurance and called in the claim himself so it's all good. My question is, what's the repair going to cost?
If rear quarter is bent under at all an approved Jag shop will have to replace it. Part is $1595 alone! I scraped garage and did more damage than yours but it didn't like big deal, $6k total repair. In old days maybe $1000 ! Jag wants new parts and it will enable the car to be CPO elgible, any else and it is not. Must use approved Jag shop, let them fight with insurance company!
if you send it into Jag and insurance, might have to watch out for diminished value...the car has a much lower resale now because of a small scrape if this thing shows up on carfax. I dont know how much it affect Jags...I know it's probably no biggy for a honda/toyota. Or you can document it to show the next owner that it's a small damage nothing to worry about.
Either claim for diminished value and get the money now or get the check from insurance and fix it yourself at a good body shop for $1k
OK - the results are in.
Progressive's first offer was $1,500. I said no. Second and final offer was $2,000 plus car rental expenses. I took it (ended up at $3,000 total).
I am now asking for Diminished Value. They are offering little guidance on filing this, other than to submit my documentation. They want to know what I am asking for. I will send them my final claim form from the damage, and then state I want to be made whole for diminished value of $x. They said they'll want to know why I'm saying $x, where I came up with this figure. So anyone know how to determine what $x is and how to support my claimed value?? Thanks in advance...
Try looking for F-type listed with accident damage then compare it to similar mileage/year cars with a clean report. You could also try asking your dealer for two trade-in quotes - for car as-is, and for a hypothetical car that doesn't have any reported damage.
