Hi, looking to do a mirrortap to power a dash cam. I have read the forum and a couple of threads about adding a radar. Instructions were to just grab the front mirror stalk cover and pull which is just a little bit scary. I gave it a wiggle at it comes off easy enough. Putting it back is not as easy as difficult to see how to line it up. Mirror fell off whilst doing this as well as just slides on to the base in a flimsy way.
I have taken some photos to help anyone who want to do this or change the mirror as it is easy if you know where to press.
You need to press where my thumb and other finger are.Not a lot of force needs so be gentle and tabs will disengage Then gently rotate cover in a anticlockwise direction as shown in relation to this photo angle. Once side tabs are disengaged cover can just be pull forward and off Inside view of tabs to be release first View of front tabs. Side view of front tabs View of detached mirror and brace that you just slide onto to mirror base still attached to the windscreen
reinstall is easy by first aligning the front rotating tabs, then once done ,rotating the cover back to original position until side tabs engage.
trying to just slide it back into position takes forever to get the alignment correct
Hi , I am in Tusmore.
good to know such a hardcore enthusiast is near by.
I wouldn't call myself "hardcore", more like "gentleman amateur"!
But I have done a fair bit of wrenching on my F-Type which is essentially the same model as yours so if you want some help working on yours just let me know.
Although I'm now struggling to do the really physical stuff (age and illnesses catching up with me) so I would be more of a mentor/supervisor than hands on.
