I was trying to figure out the best way to install my Escort 9500ix. In previous cars I was running the directwire smartcord which I would wire into the fusebox. Then I could run the cable up through the A-pillar and along the roof to the detector. Popping off panels on the F-Type are a bit more intimidating though. I can't even figure out how to remove the A-pillar. It is extremely tight and flush. Couldn't even slip in the cable through a crack. So instead I decided to try out the MirrorTap.
Ordered the MT-2009 (9" and .050" Tap)
Figured out which wire was switchable and tapped into that. Works like a charm, and looks clean. Detector turns on when the car is on, off when it is off. Only caveat is that the mute button is a bit tighter than before.
For reference these are the wires I plugged into.
Black was ground.
Blue/gray was power.
Finished look:
Could you let me know which cover you took off to get to the connector?
It is the piece directly above the mirror along the mirror stalk that is attached to the windshield. It is fully visible in the last picture to the left of the detector. It pops right off very easily.

On the coupe, but on the convertible it looks different. I have been holding off installing my detector until I understand the proper mechanism to remove and reinstall that piece. Haven't thought about it in a few months though (until I saw this thread resurrected.)

I was afraid too. Finally got around to doing it and it isn't that bad. Just use your fingernail and push in the middle on the bottom of the plastic frame/holder and you should see it start to separate. Work your way up, no need to apply too much force and eventually the two pieces will split. No need to squeeze the pieces or apply any inward pressure to separate them.
It came off really easy, had more trouble putting it back on. The new Escort 360 is too large and has this huge suction cup so it won't fit on top of the mirror. View from the driver seat is still fine. Install took 5 minutes.
I hardwired via lower passenger fuse box and ran the line up. I used add a fuse and used slot fifty-something I believe. Valentine V1 only turns on when the ignition is on.
Personally, I don't like putting the detector on the driver side as law enforcement can see the radar in plain view if they pull you over. In my experience, they are less forgiving if they see you have a radar detector.
I just did the install on my 2016 Coupe. The upper cover does just pop off if you lift up and out, much easier than you might think. I had a bit of trouble inserting the .050 pins; mine did not insert as far as the pictures here. I hope they are inserted far enough to hold. I appreciate the heads up on which color wires to use, although I did check with a VOM first.
I used a 12" MT since my V1 is on the driver's visor, the right length for my location. The visor is next to useless so it should work as the right location for the V1. Thank all.

Blend mount.com sells a mount that fits perfectly under the mirror of any F Type. Just specify which radar detector you have and they will ship you the correct mount with your order.
Hi, old thread I know but ... if the .050 pin is too big would you think a .040 would be good? Or too small?
Thanks

Which radar detectors will fit above the mirror where the only wire free ( heated glass) window glass is. I presently have a k40 and when mounted as high as possible the visor is blocked.
Does anyone know which wire is power on a 2014 convertible? There is no blue/grey wire. The black is there but I don't have access to a multimeter at the moment. Thanks so much!
@LynxFX I know this thread is old as *****, but I wanted to say thanks for posting this, as well as give it a bump as it just helped me install my Escort Max 360c. Thanks a bunch! Now if only I could figure out how to program my home link so I could get rid of the unsightly garage door opener...

I know that some door openers require an intermediate control installed. (BRITDRIVER needed one.)
If you can't program it yourself, contact a garage door installer.

Well programming the jag itself is actually super easy. you just hold your garage remote close to the mirror, hold the button along with one of the mirror buttons until it flashes fast, and it's done. It's always the physical garage opener/motor that's the pain. I was more just making a joke than asking for help.

Exactly.
We have three garage doors, all different openers, and of course ONE requires that I get on a ladder and put it into LEARN mode or something. Then jump off the ladder and race to the car so I can program the remote before the opener times out.

Thanks for reviving this thread. I may do something similar for a dash cam.
In regards to the garage door opener, I found it much easier to just learn from one of the clickers than to try to program the damn thing.
