MOBIL 1 now STJLR spec!!!!
Good news is that we aren't locked to using Castrol now. I found a press brief from Mobil 1 stating that they are Porsche, VW and JLR approved! I've been skimming the web looking for someone that sells it locally. Looks like its Europe exclusive for now? Hopefully it starts trickling over here to the US.
Anyone in Europe care to chime in?
Either way this is great news.

Correct me if I am wrong but ....
I'm under the impression that MOBIL 1 hasn't been a True synthetic oil for a long time. Mobil changed the formula for Mobil 1. Now it is a semi synthetic at best.
Am I wrong ? Castrol synthetic oil is much better for the engine.

Disclaimer: This statement will ultimately provoke argument from everyone until there is an angry mob with particularly rusty pitchforks waiting outside my door. Just like everything else in life, oil companies fight against each other like two teenage boys in front of a playboy model, trying to convince you theirs is best for whatever reason; even if that reason doesn't make any difference. They've also done a particularly good job convincing the world oil should be changed every 3000 miles if you don't want to see your engine spontaneously explode and kill your entire family who happen to be grocery shopping in the next town over. Follow the owners manual, use the kind of oil it requires, stop worrying about engine oil like its some kind of magical substance developed by a tiny wizard with tiny wizard pants that will miraculously allow your engine to run forever without failure, even if you try to run it on a combination of candle wax and horse urine.

Didn't have that privilege, but I did get to see The Ramones play at a small club in Sheepshead Bay called The Brooklyn Zoo back in '82. Most everyone has at least one of those "I'm glad I got to see ..." experiences. Rodney Dangerfield in a club would count
