Default MotorTrend Test of the SVR

This guy is usually not a Jag fan when it comes to handling, so I'm surprised and happy by his and track test of the SVR.

There are also a host of other cars tested.

enjoy!

I'm shocked he really likes the car. He is a track performance guy and has not been kind to the F-Type R in the past.

My thoughts as well, he has never praised them on the track and has never used the term well balanced.

It still needs PSS

There are two things that surprises me here, and that is the praise it gets by a guy that has not been vey fond of the F-type, and the fact that ithe SVR is only 2 seconds faster than the lap time he set with the rwd 2014 V8S....?

It was just nice to see a Jaguar praised by a pro driver in a car magazine, and makes me feel that Jaguar is headed in the right direction. To me the car feels great, just at high speed the dampers felt soft and a bit quick. The more I drive it the better it feels, I just wasn't ready for the twitchy steering.

If you watch the videos the cars reactions to inputs seem smoother, and more forgiving. Watch the video of the Stig I put up and you can see hes fighting the car a bit more in an effort to keep it smooth and stable.. You loose a lot of time that way. I like the smoothness, I never felt that in my XKR or any of the other F-Types I've driven although I've never driven the AWD R. If course I'm not a pro driver so thats just my opinion.

Who knows another driver may drive the the R 5 seconds faster. You throw any top 20 current GT3 or higher class driver in there and the results may be different.

Two seconds on Seca is a lot, and you can spend your day chasing it in the same car. I'm also not sure if the track temp was cooler this time, as thats a major factor for the tires. He also pushed it pretty hard in a few corners and lost a tenth or so. Then watch him drive the GTR, it's like hes driving a bus.

We all like different cars for different reasons, heck it got dusted but a Carrerra S which is depressing, the turbo would have killed it. The R8 V10 is a beast, it's so smooth and stable! Have not watched the ACR yet, I'm sure thats a good one as well.

I absolutely agree that laptimes has very much to do with the driver, and the differense between a good driver and a professional race driver is bigger than most perhaps most people think.

I was lucky enough to be a passenger of an F-type awd R driven by a professional race driver on Ohlins test track in Sweden last year (just one full speed lap on a very short and tecnical track), and that really showed me what the F-type is capable of. He was rather impressed with the car (he had never driven it before that day, and he drove it with ESC off), and I was rather impressed With him AND the car I had just driven the car a few laps on the same track myself, and he was able to push the car way harder than I was.

Here is a (rather shaky) video of the lap:

Am I the only one that hears the supercharger whine on both these videos, but fails to hear it in real life?!

You aren't pushing it hard enough. I had never heard the whine (for the first full year)until my 11 mile run through the Dragon. (I'm guessing you'll never hear it over the exhaust in a vert.)

Randy can be brutal when he wants to be - great to see him give praise to a fantastic looking and performing car.

Engine cover deadens SC whine a great deal. SVR doesn't have engine cover.

I know you drive with yours permanently off, I on other hand only take it off for track days. Very noticeable difference even when normally driven.

can you elaborate?
More power? Less heat-soak?

I have recorded as much as a 19 degF reduction in intake air temps with the cover removed. Lower IAT (denser charge), more power.

I removed the engine cover months ago. I think you are right, being a vert, the whine flails into insignificance compared to the exhaust tunes.

Going back to the OP, I was so tempted by an SVR vert...but the price for another 25PS's, titanium back box and different knuckles on the rear suspension...just can't quite justify it.
Lovely looking car in Blue with the black wheels.
I wonder how it compares to the Project 7, now there's a car i'd sell my wife for

I didn't hear much from mine until I swapped pullies and changed my intake. Now it screams when I'm on it. Makes it a whole new experience.
