Right, on my 16 only the button turns it off, not dynamic, not sport.

When you say moving the shifter into dynamic - moving the shifter puts it into sport. You engage dynamic via the rocker switch - is that what you mean?

Engaging dynamic disables eco on my 14 V8S

I think it's a 2016 thing. I have a 2016 Range Rover Sport with the V8 engine and I have to turn off eco mode to turn it off. In the 2015 RRS I test drove putting it into dynamic would turn off the eco mode.
I suspect they did the same with both brands.

Yes, exactly. On 14-15's Eco mode was disabled in Dynamic mode. That changed for '16. Because of continued fuel economy mandates, in a couple of years or so there won't be any way to disable it from inside the car.

As I've said here a couple of times before, I'm surprised that the US and EU still allow manufacturers to get away w/ a button to turn it off because the vehicle mileage certification is established w/ start-stop operating.
