Was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time chatting about the F-Type and Ian particularly liked the black wrap on the aero pack (below rocker panel) and 'couldn't understand why they had released the 2016MY with colour coded aero kit and agreed colour coded, made the design appear fat'!
Got the car, brochure and model F-type autographed! Sad, I know, but I like it! Guess I should try protecting it with a patch of xpel?
I was fortunate enough to meet Shigeru Uehara. He designed all of Hondas' halo cars like the s2000, NSX, etc. I had him sign my valve cover, dashboard and the corner of the hood of my s2000 with a paint marker. Took it to a body shop and they went over it with a clear coat and I later had it wrapped.
Your title was a cruel joke. I think we all got a twinge of dread by reading it. But it was all worthwhile to see pictures of Ian.
Yes it was...but true!
As far as the pics, I cannot take any credit for those. The press were there at the opening and unveiling of the F-Pace at a Ted Baker inspired Hilton Hotel in Poole, Dorset.
Ian is a smashing bloke - easy to talk and to listen to. We had an interesting chat about the AWD F-Type as well - Ian wasn't that keen, and said that it wash't 'really a driver's car' which made me chuckle, although I'm biased of course with the RWD, R.
Shame there wasn't time to talk about other designs like the gorgeous C-X75 etc.
An yes, I'm pretty **** when it comes to cars...I have a folder with about every press release from 2000 concept F through to the present day, guess I'm just an F-Nut!
I'm not brave enough to spray clear coat over the signature; Just hoping the adhesive on the xPel backing won't ruin the signature over time. It was done with a Japanese "Pentel' Permanent marker.
Wonderful that you got to meet Ian Callum! I would love to thank him personally for the design and the work that he did to bring the CX16 to life, for which I am grateful and forever going into the garage to peak at mine when I haven't seen it in awhile (like every few hours...) I never get tired of looking at it.
Well, we were invited to a Local Jaguar 'do' at a Ted Baker inspired, Hilton Branded Hotel.
Ian Callum and the man behind Ted Baker fashion were the guest speakers that evening.
Ian was discussing the new F-Pace, and we were interested in the drive up in our FTR, and of course seeing some of JLR's new iron.
I phoned the organisers, and explained my passion for the F-Type etc, and wanted to know if it were at all possible to get Ian to autograph our car (and some other items) and they were more than happy to oblige!
Ian is a busy chap as one might imagine, and he was really humbled by the fact that we (wife as well) were so passionate about the design and engineering and the fact that we had spent 15 years saving for a sports car and tested all the rivals on the market, that he was only too pleased to spend some time chatting about the F-Type and it's variants.
All looked a bit dodgy as we met up in a deserted underground parking lot with the press taking photos!
Well done Tel! And the misdirection of your title. And the humble story of saving up for your F-Type (many simply take it for granted that many of us here can't just buy what we want when we want, much as we want). Nice touch. (Shades of "Deep Throat").
Best regards,
Jay

Thanks RJ - Looks can be deceiving! (Close enough with the numbering though, 75..I was born in '70)
Yes, lots of blood, sweat and tears over a long time, so the purchase had to be very, very correct as it is a keeper.
I think we got it right, comparing everything else on the high street;
The F-Type is a 'real' drivers/sports car.
I'm not sure about the ''Deep Throat'' either? Certainly not the version I saw anyway ;-)

You can stop thinking you got it right 'cause you did. (Too late, now, to have to go back and explain to Ian Callum that you - ergo he - got it wrong...isn't it?).
Callum, obviously, had a calling (since age 3!!!). And it all started, as all things do, with the "wheel".
I also LOVE that this was in black and white, that all the images shown - against his speaking - were silent, and last but not least, the HUGE SMILE he had on his face, especially while driving the "E".
