So, dent removal from aircraft. It happens.

The components of The Aluminium Overcast are referred to as same for a reason...

Good news, All. The PDR expert was able to massage out the dent. Even he was surprised.

I've used the same PDR guy for 7 years for door dings, shopping cart dings, etc. I've had them on the seams and everywhere. I don't know how he does it but I have yet to have a dent that he hasn't been able to make disappear completely.

He's very good. Through his skepticism and caution, he under-promised and over-delivered. He had to drill a small hole behind the existing grommet hole behind the rubber trim in the door jamb area, because the existing hole wasn't large enough for the diameter of the "stick" he used. The whole process was akin to watching facial plastic surgery. It looked harsh, awful and painful -- particularly on my 1,200 mile custom ordered, long-awaited new car -- but the result looked beautiful.

If you take to Jag approved shop there will be no filler. Most likely whole panel will be replaced per Jag rules. I'm going through this now as a small dent in 1/4 had a hidden rip and whole 1/4 has to be replaced if the shop is to remain approved. Insurance has pretty much gone along. Small rub is now a $6500 repair. Tail light took 3 weeks to get but 1/4 was in stock in US! In the good old days this would have been $750!

I had to escalate big time last year, including switching shops from one jag certified shop to another, to finally get to the results you are getting now. I am so relieved to hear certified shops are being held to jag standards this year. That wasn't the case with the first jag certified body shop I dealt with last year. That shop was doing whatever they wanted to do, regardless of what jag would deem a correct repair. The reason it matters is because if a car is repaired at a jag approved shop, it can qualify as a C.P.O. car. Made me wonder if CPO cars were really up to snuff given the non-approved repairs the first certified shop was trying to do on my car.

Thankfully shop #2 convinced my insurer that proper repairs to jag standards were not economically feasible in my case. In the end I got a new car instead of a cosmetically repaired p.o.s. I raised my concerns regarding the accreditation process and its effect on the CPO program with the jag guys who monitor this forum. Sounds like that conversation may have produced results. Amazing.
