Still stuck on this too unfortunately - haven't had the time to call up shops to see who would be willing to do the CCF updates. The actual screen removal doesn't seem too bad, but I'm intimidated by purchasing all the equipment needed to do the CCF myself.

I am also looking for a shop in/near NYC to install the UAD unit. The video is great, but I don't want to fool around with the dash.

Robert,
Since you are located in Brooklyn, you might want to try giving these guys a call. I know they do installations and have worked on the F Type sports car. Also, you can ask them where you can go if you want to have the work done at a different place.

Thanks for the lead, but they only install their unit. It did not get the best reviews from this forum. I would think having them local would be an advantage if I did have issues though. I will think about it.

I guess it's the same IMC version of the system and I've also been thinking about how to integrate CarPlay. How come you didn't go for UAD? Don't they have any kit that works with our system?

hello everyone,

I am in the market for a 2nd hand F-Type and currently at a stage of soaking up all the possible knowledge I can. I am glad that the original 10 inch retrofit is possible as that would be my go to solution for carplay, more responsive and more modern system, especially given the price isn`t really that much different from the aftermarket solutions.

My ony questions is how can I tell that an older F-Type will be compatible with this retrofit? Is there like a cut of production date or can all of them be retrofitted with proper coding? Can this be easily seen from a VIN number? If anyone could point me in the right direction with this I`d be most grateful.

Thank you!

I think (though am willing to be corrected!) it has to be MY18, 'J' in the 10th position of the VIN.

From what I have been able to determine, you can tell by the area between the seats on the back wall. If it is a convertible and it just has the bungie mesh instead of an actual storage compartment on the back wall, then it has the newer system that can be upgraded. If it is a coupe and up high on the back wall between the seats there is a bungie net recess, you are good to go. If there is a useful subby hole, you have the Bosch.

I haven't been able to validate this 100%, but what I believe happened is that when Jaguar went from the Bosch to the Harmon system, the main guts of the unit went from behind the screen to the back wall between the seats. The formerly empty space behind the trim was now filled with the harmon unit and they had to ditch the extra storage space.

The graphics on the screen also look different, but I don't have pictures of that.

I doubt that's accurate. The 'lockable stowage compartment' was part of the Premium package, I think it was, at least for 2014.

Sorry but zero out of two for you today.
The later systems actually sit quite low in between the seats where the original cd player used to be. It doesn’t take up any additional space above the level of the central arm rest

Nope, not aware of any such indy in or around Germany I'm afraid. I guess these cars are just too rare around here. The best option is probably to get the MY18 specific UAD kit. I might actually even prefer that to the 10" screen since I find the 8" setup with the physical buttons more user friendly.

It's interesting though that you Nuno mention that LR Retrofits operate in the Netherlands because that's definitely within reasonable driving distance for me. I didn't see anything about that on their page and thought they were only in the UK. Did they mention where in NL they operate?

The Netherlands might be an option for us

Info:

Just bought the IID-Tool from GAP. I am going to do the coding myself. That tool does everything I want without Jaguar-Software, Dongles or more worse cracked China-Software ;-)

I already have the 10'' screen. Can someone please help me further:
Do I only need T2R38268 / KX53-047A04-AC, Outer screen bezel (the shiny black part you see) OR do I also need T2R26653 / KX53-10F838-AA, Bracket cover (the inner bracket that the display attaches)?
Thx and greetings,
Markus.

Hey Markus,

where did you get the 10" screen from?
I joined the forum just based on my intend to upgrade my MY18 F-Type as well.
Since I'm from Germany (near Kassel), we might update each other on the progress!

Cheers,
Andreas
