Noise is a function of the interaction between the tread pattern and the "pattern" of the road surface, so is likely to vary quite a lot, certainly in the UK where a variety of surfaces is used, depending on the local council's budget and resurfacing philosophy. There are roads near me where I can go from deafening road noise to barely a whisper in the space of a few hundred yards ....

Am looking for a set of wheels along with tires to change up the R coupe. I'm thinking of upsizing to:

20x10F and 20x12R w/ 285/30 and 325/25; or
20x10F and 20x11R w/ 275/35 and 315/30
with as close factory offsets of ET55 and ET38 as possible

Anyone fitted these tire widths on a stock R Coupe AWD before, without rubbing?

im going with a set of Vredestein Ultrac Vorti in factory size, instead of PS4S, I figured it is better to burn through a $210 than a $350 tire(single rear at the time of writing on tirerack)

Perhaps I should see if anyone nearby wants used PS4S when I likely change them this fall.
Too bad they don’t fit in the trunk, otherwise I’d get them from you in October. I usually run my tires right down to the cord.

Good luck finding those tire sizes!

Nice thing about the coupe - you can tie them to the roof.

I hate disposing of them with some life left in them; wonder if the tire shops do anything with them.

Hard to go wrong with Tire Rack, have them shipped right to the installer. Also, a lot of folks have had good luck with Costco, apparently including installation (not online, of course.)

PS4S comes in all those tire sizes. 20x10 / 11 / 12 Rims with offsets I can choose and rotary/cold forged not that bad either, for example Variant or Ferrada. But what offsets will allow those width tires?

As (I think) you're in the UK, I use AA Tyres, mobile fitting as a place of your choice. I previously used Event Tyres, who were very good, same mobile fitting, but they were bought up by AA Tyres. The fitters I've had treated my alloys very nicely - as if they were their own! You can probably find cheaper at Black Circles but then you have to find a local fitter - for me it's more convenient having them fitted at my place.

Dave,
PM me your zipcode and I'll see what it will cost to ship. Good thing about tires is no need to box up. Just slap on a label and ship.

FYI, after roughly 18k miles, I measure 7/32” of tread in the front, and 5.5/32” in the rear. Apparently, I’m not driving it hard enough.

After 18k miles I wouldn't have any tread left at all! I've never got tyres to last more the 10k on any Jag I've had, and that's when I run 'em down to the wear indicators.

I love tire conversations!

As I posted in the XKR forum, I run 3 sets of tires, on 3 sets of rims. Summer Extremes (20's), All seasons (19's), and Winter extremes (18's).
The winter's don't get much of a workout any longer. But you should have seen the faces of those that never saw skiis on a roof rack, on a sports car; at Tremblant.

With the temperatures and the uneven surfaces in spring and fall, Summer's with low profiles just don't work.

Thanks for the opportunity to share.
Cheers!

out of interest you will notice on the following page front tyre list comparison the tyres for 265/35-20 from pirelli all show different make versions, but the PS4's are missing a jag make version. Is there a current version people tend to go with for the PS4s?

Also some are marked XL and some are not, is there a requirement for XL on a RWD ftype-R?

Jag does not offer Michelins as an OEM tire for the F-Type, hence no Jag version of the PS4. Besides, the generic version of a tire is usually less expensive than the branded version unless the retailer is trying to clear out some inventory. XL rating stands for Extra Load, meaning that the tire is constructed to withstand higher air pressure to accommodate higher weight loads.

understood, but above people mentioned the branded version actually did make a difference as it suits the drive mechanics of the car etc?
