New 1/4 mile time...
#21
Well, holy **** - look at this guy!! Welcome to the club Good luck with that R, these are definitely fun cars and as you know the RWD can be a handful, I need to take one of the new awd cars for a spin.
Funny you should, post...I was just about to update this thread.
I went to Atco again last night and was SURE it would be a bit quicker with me manually shifting and winding out the gears a bit more. No dice, I mean statistically speaking this f'ing thing ran exactly the same as last week with the car shifting.
Did a big burn out and nailed the 60' and nailed each shift - the results:
60' 1.752
330' 4.902
1/8 7.448 @ 97.31
1000' 9.630
1/4 11.462 @ 123.94
Essentially the same as my 11.446 @124.09 pass.
Then despite my better judgement, I tried to stall up the car and launch and it pull 1.82 60' and 11.53 - bleh.
I don't think this thing will go any faster until I get the new crank pulley installed...spray it...something.
Killing me.

I really think that the problem is down low during the launch. Without being able to get that supercharger spinning with a high stall converter, the off idle response is just abysmal IMO. First gear is also pretty short, so you get lag and then loose more time with a shift, which drops your timing advance going into second. Once your into second gear the issue is negated due to the shift points. Perhaps some tuning specifically to address the launch could help a bit. I always have had my best times at the track in other high power cars by launching in second gear. The poor performance of the motor down low is reflected in the 1/8 mile times that are just mediocre for a car of this power IMO (heaviness is a big factor of course!) The top end power once under full steam really saves the time and traps, but without a stellar launch 10s will be tough. A 100 shot startin after the 2-3 shift could get you there LOL.

Yeah, you guys are right about the converter - but I feel like messing with the converter on this car might open a can of worms I'm not willing to get into. Besides, I can stall it up - but when I let off the brake, the car basically falls on its face...
Also, totally agree that the first half of the track is definitely off point. Hell, I say we start with a 35 shot as soon as I got WOT in 1st! ECU might freak out with the torque...but I think having it online in 2nd gear is doable...?

In the so called 'good old days' when we dragged raced a lot and thought we had fast cars.. one of the biggest issue to a slow first 60-100 feet (other than traction) was rear gear ratio that was too slow.
The Jaguar has lots of top end well beyond the 124 mph apparent top end speed for the quarter mile and higher' gears would certainly speed up the initial distance, without flattening out the top end.

Understand he's running drag radials (Post #1). And with some 1.70's, he’s laying down some nice 60-ft times too. That said, running MT 27.8” DR's under a 3800# car (give or take), he can certainly go below 20psi. Perhaps he’s already done so and found 20psi to be the sweet spot--I don't know. Perhaps there's a little something still left at the line...or not.

Hey guys...
I've tried less than 20psi, no dice. For me, the sweet spot is 20psi cold and a surprisingly large burnout and it'll hook time after time.
cbroth - totally agree on the cooling effects of nitrous and the multiplier that has on a blower car. I spec'd out a wet shot setup with a new local shop I found (apparently they've been around a while though...) - they just did my lower crank pulley and thermostat. So far they're on point and do some wild stuff there, I'll try to get some pics. We spec'd a wet setup with a dedicated fuel cell for the nitrous. The cell of course would have a gallon or two of MS109 strictly for the nitrous.
But what got my attention more was talking with them about porting the blower. The price is, IMO, is not bad at all...and the CTS-V guys and others have great success with this sort of thing.

I was trying to go to South Ga MP for a baseline run tomorrow but it looks it's gonna be rained out... damn. Unfortunately, the nearest full 1/4 mile is 2 hours away at the moment. Gainesville is supposed to be opening up mid April for TnT.
Liamgo brought up a good point, have you tried launching in 2nd? I haven't stomped if from a dig in S2 to see if it would hold or downshift anyway. Trying to be "nice" for a couple hundred more miles.

The 1/2 mile event was pretty wild, I'll open a separate thread on it
Back to the 1/4 mile - there is no point for me launching in 2nd gear. This car will dead hook and pull down the engine in 1st gear. In 2nd it'd be even worse...plus...I'd wager a guess that it would just shift down to 1st gear when you went WOT.

I tried launching in 2nd today with dynamic engine mode set to "normal"
It holds 2 gear just fine and the throttle is a lot easier to control in order to keep the wheel spin down, as soon as I got some speed I punched it and shifted into third.
I'll try this at auto club drag way tomorrow.
RWD R on shitty Pirelli tires btw
