New 2016 F-type S AWD Vert Owner; things to check?
I am a new owner of a used 2016 F-Type S AWD Convertible with 13K miles. I was hoping to get some input on how soon I should be changing out my fluids based on age, not necessarily miles. Once I am caught up then I will just do my services based on miles. Of course, any other input for general things to check would be greatly appreciated. What I have learned about the car is that for the first 8000 miles it served at Jaguar: Edwards, CO. as a lease vehicle. Then sold as a Certified Pre-Owed in Brentwood, TN for the next 5000 miles... then sold to Carvana.Com where I bought it.
Just a bit of what I have done in the last few weeks with the car since I purchased it…
• Changed the motor oil ( Castrol Edge Pro 0w-20 ) and changed oil filter.
• Installed new car battery.
Then went to Jag Ocala where we did the following…
o Full Used Car Inspection
o Updated ECM & TCM Software
o Cleaned out fuel injectors
o Flushed out and replaced old brake fluid
o Flushed out and replaced old radiator fluid
o Realigned all four wheels ( for AWD ).
o Once home, I also got InControl updated from the old owner to myself.
Then I did a paint correction ( compounded & polished ) with two coats of spray ceramics; tuned out wonderful!!
Now I am just looking for input on when best to change out the:
o Rear Differential oil
o Front Differential oil
o Transfer Box oil
o Transmission oil
I know all the recommended service miles and intervals , but that does not take into concertation having 8 year old oil in some of these systems. Setting up at home with a Quickjack 5000-TL, and with the guides I have now for each of these service procedures, I will be doing these services at home ( Good Lord willing and the river don't rise! ).
I have absolutely no interest in doing any "mods", right now the car is running ( and looking ) fantastic!
Thanks for any input you may want to share!
Welcome and congratulations she’s a beauty. I’m having my diff oil changed this fall at 56-60k miles despite it being potentially early. I want to stay ahead of it. Transmission fluid will get charged then also despite the 100k mile recommendation. Mine is a 2014 so both time and miles matter to me.
I think you have the mechanics areas covered. Think about checking the interior pieces that are touched by hands. A lot of owners have experienced gummy buttons or steering wheel surfaces..
It's unknown if this phenomenon is cause by heat, oils coming off the hands, lotions people have on their hands, or a combination of those... There are multiple threads on here with these topics, but here's a few:
@Mbourne: Thank you very much! Sounds like you have a good plan there, seems a 60K Transmission oil change is a very fine time to get it done. Glad your going after the rear diff also at that time, seems you'll be due for it for sure by that time.
@Mahjik: Good point! When I was waiting on getting the car and just reading these forums, I read about the potential the gummy bits around the inside. I guess I got lucky as it's all just fine for me, no gummy bears! Thanks for the head's up!
Doing some more research today, seems any of these oils can and will break down once contaminated ( once placed in the car ) anywhere from 8 to 10 years no matter the miles.
So it just seems to me now I'll want to do them all to be sure. It will take time of course, and money ( of course ).
