New F-Type R coming, question for everyone
#21
If I went the McLaren route it would more than likely be new. I know, massive depreciation... but I would have no intention of selling the car, it would be to keep in addition to the F-Type.
If you were to spend $200-300 K on a mid-engine car, what would be your preference?

Granted, the 488 pricing hasn't been announced yet, but rumors have it in the $250k range. For me, that would be a more attractive option in your listed range.

McLaren 650S Spider. If the 675 LT wasn't being listed at 350k, that would top my list. Of course only 500 are being produced.
While a new McLaren is out of my price range, I was very close to buying a slighty used MP4-12C instead of the F-Type. The one thing that would scare me about buying a new McLaren is the recent price drops on the MP4s. I think they finally hit bottom, so now might be an EXCELLENT time to pick one up.

I agree about forums, I'm on Maser Ghibli forum and you should, justifiably, the complaints. Somehow they are still selling 900 a month in the US. Just like Jag the fun part wins out over logic. I think way too much time is spent complaining about radios and infotainment screens for a sports car. You buy this car for looks and performance. My first car in high school was a '59 TR3A. No tech , totally unreliable, and you couldn't here the radio from 2nd gear on up. I have the best memories of that car and it started me down the road to a life time of 2 seaters.

I've been active on Audi, BMW, Lotus, Shelby, and Z06 forums previously, and every single one of them was heavily loaded with people very unhappy about something. It was very often centered on "poor customer service" as well.

Long live the 2-seater! Flaws and all.

I agree customer service can really effect the way you feel about a car. The dealer didn't manufacture the car but they can at least be on our side in trying to get a fix. It would be nice if Jag set up a social media person to be on the website and follow up for us. Maserati did this under the name Maserati Cares and it has made a big difference in getting accurate info and help with some dealers, not mine.
