Hi All. I just got my 2017 F Type S and love the car so far. I have some questions for the group that I hope you can answer:
1. Battery Drain and OBD 2. So I recently had an oil change and three days later got the battery low message. I am guessing they connected to the obd 2 port. I noticed that the door lock light and the hazard button would stay lit all the time. So, I did my research and found this is a common issue. I disconnected the negative battery cable for 5 seconds and reconnected. All appears to be resolved now. I did have to reset the one touch on the windows and a few other settings. Seems like a weird issue. Anything else I should double check to make sure all systems are operating normally?
2. Passport To Service - recommends changing the transaxle fluid after 3 years or 48,000 miles. My car is rear wheel drive and 18,000 miles. How important is this? Can it wait for the next service from Jaguar in February 2021?
3. Extended Warranty - I am under warranty through Jaguar through February 2022. What are your thoughts on an extended warranty? The best I could find is through easy care gold at a cost of $4,000 for 5 years and 100,000 miles. It just bothers me that I am paying for an easy care warranty for 20 months that will never be used since it is under Jaguar warranty. Should I wait until Jaguar warranty is about to expire? Is that a more expensive option than buying it today?
Thanks

1. In the future, you will need to remember to do the reset anytime the OBD has been accessed.
2.The RWD F-type has no transaxle. Do you mean the differential? Where did you see the guidance for a 48k fluid change. That’s a good idea, but all documents I’ve seen remain silent on the issue and the dealers will often cite Jag’s fluid for life philosophy.
3. You would be paying for more than three years of coverage you don’t need. Wait until six weeks before your warranty expires. The coverage may be more expensive at that time, but actual Time of useful coverage will come out much cheaper on an annual basis. For example, with just 1 month left in my OEM warranty, I got an additional 36 months and 40k miles of bumper-bumper coverage for $3200. You should have at least one month of coverage left on your OEM warranty to get the best deal on an extended one.

That’s a generality, not a rule. On my MINI, I got great use out of an extended warranty issued through AAA. This most recent extended warranty is issued through my Jag dealer by a third party insurance company with good reviews. We’ll see how good it is if I need it.
