Default New member interested in F Type S V8

Hi everyone, I am very interested in a 2014 F Type S V8, but I thought it best to find out if there are any major long term issues. I read the entire sticky problem thread, which seems to be mostly quality control and things that would be corrected by now, since the F Type S V8 is 5 years old. I have a 2018 Mustang GT and 2010 BMW 335i. My Mustang GT is a convertible, which is a "must have" for me, in the warm months. But it's pretty big and heavy and I'm used to something smaller. I recently sold my 2009 Porsche 911 because of potential bore scoring and transmission issues. There was nothing wrong with the car, but I did not wish to be exposed to potentially $20k - $60k in repairs. So, I need a replacement. I am hoping there are no "deal breakers" on the F Type.

V8 S is the way to go for money, performance and looks.

If you sold a car only because of potential problems, Jaguar might not be a good brand for you as there are many potential problems with any Jaguar out there. Maybe try Lexus or Acura?

45k on mine. No issues at all. Still runs like a scalded dog.

I also have a BMW, so I'm used to high repair costs. I am mostly concerned with the reliability of the engine and transmission.

Engine and transmission are pretty robust, IME.

The engine has some problems once the mileage gets up over 80k, mainly split/cracked coolant pipes, failed coolant pump and rattly SC coupler.
Lots of reports of these problems on the XF, XK and XJ sub-forums.
It's extremely important that you change the engine oil frequently and make sure it is the correct spec and volume, and you keep the coolant topped up at all times.
The gearbox is the well known ZF 8HP70 which is pretty much bullet proof although it pays to change the fluid at 60k miles or thereabouts.

I personally think SAE 20 is not heavy enough for a high HP supercharged monster, but is rather to provide the best possible manufacturer mpg goals when crusing at 55 mph at 1100 RPM. That might be why our SC's have early issues.

As a decent analog the Ford 5.0L recommends 5W-20 probably also to make manufacturer mpg goals, but goes up to 5W-30 if you opt for the track pack software, and inceases to 10W-50 if you add a Whipple supercharger.

I typically change oil once a year, which is about 2000 - 2500 miles. I'm considering an an F-Type S V8 with less than 20K miles. I doubt I would drive it more than 15k more miles, so high mileage isn't a serious concern.

My low mileage 2015 V8S has had no issues other than the sticky interior buttons common in the 2014-2015s. Replaced the start button ($30) and some elbow grease and my 2015 still looks and runs like new., albeit only putting 3K-4K miles a year on it.
