New model R model cars have different sound

Hi guys,
I came across this video. I think it's a great sound sample of the new model Jaguar F-Type R sports car which has the OPF as part of it's exhaust. The exhaust is definitely different than it's older model cars. The road is completely straight and the driver smashes the gas pedal to the floor which allows you to hear the exhaust for its true sound. In my opinion it's a muted exhaust sound when compared to its previous version.

As you can see in the video the car has European license plates. My guess is the OPF was implemented sooner in Europe than in North American market.. hopefully someone else will chime in.

I have a 21 Type R.
It does have the 'new' filters and also I believe remapped engine software compared to the model year 2019 and earlier cars. I believe changes were made for the 2020 model year and on (at least in the US) though some 2019 cars might have it as well. So no pops and bangs on downshifts (which personally I am OK with - for me that was a bit 'theatrical') and the engine is pretty quiet overall just cruising around under 3000 rpm even with the active exhaust set to on. But once you accelerate hard (especially in dynamic mode) and hit 3500pm and above the valves fully open and you get a great sound, especially on upshifts.
Its a bit more civilized than the earlier cars but still one of the best sounding V8's you can buy IMO. It also has 575bhp up from 550bhp on the pre 2020 cars which helps ...

I also have a 2021 F Type R and have found that the exhaust system sound needed some "breaking in". By about the 3000 mile mark I noticed that with the exhaust set to open, or in the Dynamic mode and with the transmission in Sport and using the paddle shifters I do get a lot of crackles, pops and bangs. Especially noticeable if holding it in one gear, running the RPM's up above 5000 and then letting off on the throttle.
I understand the earlier models were much louder and something was done by the 2021 model year to tame the sound a bit.
I did try it after pulling fuse # 15 on day and it was louder all the time but also seemed louder than it was with the exhaust open and/or in Dynamic mode. So my impression was that the current system is still slightly suppressed even when you open the exhaust or put it in the Dynamic mode. It was fun with fuse # 15 removed but it also was a bit much for just cruising and wanting to listen to some music too.

I'd been looking for a '20 or earlier (R-DYN or "R") for quite a while and only recently decided I really like the changes to the nose and dash of the '21+ and took a look at a '22 F-Type, especially because it gave me the 444 hp V8.
I didn't want to spring for the bigger buck$ of the "R", especially '21+, but the detuned V8, costing a LOT less, was perfect for me. Plenty of V8 power, the loud exhaust roar, without the expense of the "R".
Didn't road test but starting up a '22 and revving her a bit, I noticed how much "quieter" it was than the '18 "R" (and even an '18 390 hp 6) I test drove some 4 months ago.
That led me to the videos and got me to sign up here as well. Disappointed that the exhaust was tamed a bit but the video above sounds pretty good anyway. Wish I could find that video again, but the one above, of the '22 covers it pretty well, and sounds pretty good too.
My main problem now is can I really get my golf clubs in the VERT (they barely fit in the coupe).

Passenger side is not an option. My golf clubs are ALWAYS in the car in case a golf game breaks out. ![Big Grin](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I'd heard that was doable. I already take the woods out of my bag to fit it in my RS3 so that's no big deal.
Can the carry bag fit cross-wise in the very back, as in a C7 (even a C8 ?) Corvette ? Or do they go in on an angle ?
I know there is some room on each side toward the back bumper but don't remember if they can be fit in parallel to the back bumper.

On the exhaust note - agree. I've had my 2018 R for almost 2 years now and it is insane, the pedal tap technique to make it pop and bang on the overrun works constantly, but switching off the active exhaust tones it down too so it's controllable. Test drove a 2021 R on Monday and it was a completely different car, could genuinely barely hear anything, it was so disappointing. Although when I tried to activate the active exhaust, the light just flashed so either the previous owner has removed the fuse or there's an issue keeping the valves closed. I'd really hope it's the latter because if it's the former and the valves are wide open... that barely makes sense
I also had a 2021 F-Type R in the UK for a bit over a week (which I think sounded better), it still sounded good... but just the pops and crackles are gone (except occasionally on downshift or high-RPM overrun briefly) and certainly not 18 R levels:
